Awful noise coming from heater motor

Featured Replies

I have a nasty noise coming from my heater motor, it happens on all settings, feet, vents, top, 1, 2 & 3.

It's like a very loud whirring noise, my dad thinks the motor could do with some WD40 but I don't think so the noise is too significant. I have checked inside it and none of the bearings have gone and all feels tight.

Don't want to be forking out any money ATM as I can't afford it. Anyone know what my problem may be and how to fix it?

Cheers.

Mines more of a loud whirring noise, mines wether the car is hot or cold aswell :/ think the motors almost gone tbh but if there's a cheap alternate il go down that route haha.

Had the same problem. Tryed a few things, but had to replace the entire unit, thats the only way to solve it.

spray it. when on full blast..

Move fan .. Then smack the unit with a rubber mallet it till it stops..

Worked for me ;)

I hit mine on the top, problem solved. :)

Was just gonna say hit it haha

Nothing worked on mine. Bearings were knackered. Mine roared/ growled rather than squealed.

Yeah man, bearings and heaters!

Night heater in my mates race home used to be silent then decide it was gonna be noisy in the middle of every night at race meetings, damn bearings. Company said it wasn't repairable, but we stripped it, ordered bearings and rebuilt, flawless :)

Was probabbly possible to do mine, but got one from a scrappy for £15. Was pretty much new too, apart from the matrix, which i stupidly didnt check and started pissing water when i put the coolant in

breaking a 1992 Mk3 Coupe atm not sure if parts are the same but if anything is needed feel free to inbox me

no worries it is most commonly the bearings, whilst not the same replaced one in a mk2 the other day

last time for me was a soaking in PTFE 3in1. not made a squeak since, but I'm suspect my radiator fan is going to need replacing soon.

Might replace the whole rad at the same time.
