Currently having a discussion with my insurance company as they can't find my breadvan via the license plate, can anybody tell me if the old mk2 bready classes as an estate or a hatchback etc etc etc, thankyou

I very much doubt you have the polo 86c estate, unless you have been a very lucky person.

the people replacing my rear glass are convinced its an estate lol, when they come to fit it tomorrow I'm gna make a bet with the guy that the estate glass wont fit

Think I've only ever seen pictures of one estate, it was blue and the back windows made it look like a hearse. think it was LHD as well.

There was a Coupe, Hatchback, and saloon. The hatchback is referred to as a 'breadvan' as a nick-name but it's not something you need to confuse your insurers with. It's a hatchback, according to VW and always was.

Wasn't a Polo. It was a Brazillian car called the Fox, which is more like a short-reared Passat in hatch and estate - the estate looking a bit like the Polo. Shares the same longitudinal engine placement as Passat, it isn't a small car..

Nope not that one. There was actually one with a longer back window. There are pictures of it somewhere on here.

Someone did make an estate using a breadvan roof on a saloon. So it looked like a stretched breadvan with the extra length in the rear overhang. But it was a unique privately adapted vehicle by some dude in a lock-up somewhere, nothing to do with VW. Think it was silver.

It's a bit screwy to me really, because the saloon's more like most people's definition of a coupe.

Thats what I was thinking of when Cymro mentioned about it. Theres a few knocking about in Germany. I just can't remeber what the Germans call them to search out images on Google.

i did say to them the car comes up as a hatchback when the reg is entered onto online doodies

You car hasn't been imported by any chance has it? I've had that problem before when I was looking at imported MX5s.

Shame that... Wish I hadn't binned it in a way but I needed the space. The saloon was cut down ready and the breadvan back end plopped on top. Just needed a bit of trimming then welding into place.

I can picture the blue Dietrich conversion you're all thinking of as that's what prompted me to have a go at it myself.

They also did a yellow one which was a breadvan that was chopped at the end of the back of the sills and another breadvan joined to it that was cut at the B post so was effectively a breadvan with an extra 15" between the front and back wheels. There was a pic of them both side by side on the net years ago.

There was no factory estate. Just saloon, coupe, hatchback and van.

I also have seen the estate cymro speaks of. I'm sure it had additional windows, not just longer ones. And if was a 2f aswell (if memory serves)
