My mate has a mk2 golf gti and he is doing an engine conversion and said i can have his original engine, it is a good strong engine and it pulls well. I want it in my polo!

any advice?

I looked into this myself a few weeks ago, and I found that the 1.8 is too tall for a Polo.

Infact all but the 1.3 engines will be too tall in the block.

It will fit with work, but it'll be very low in the engine bay, or very high and unable to shut the bonnet.

It won't work without major chassis mods.
