Give me a swirl !

Recently swapped from my pooberg to a weber. Instead of running a swirl pot, as is on a poorberg, i simply run an inline fuel a filter after the pump to try steady out the intermitent injections of fuel and therefore create smoother running (in theory).

So would people advise the use of a swirl pot on a weber ? would it make it run a little smoother ?

To swirl pot on not to swirl pot ?

Nope, as the webber has a IN and RETURN unlike the pierburg that just had an IN. The webber also uses its fuel bowlas the swirl pot, fuel goes into the bowl, if its full the float closes and its just returned to tank.

I wouldn't bother with that filter either, the mechanical fuel pump pressure is around 3bar (43PSI), so running it is just causing a restriction to the fuel and most likely not doing your pump internals any favours.

What carburettor are we talking about here? As both DMTR and DMTL do not have an "In and return", neither does my weber DCD.

Mines a DMTR. Doesn't have a fuel return just has an in. Just wondered if it would make the fuel flow smoother with a swirl pot ? or whether it was supposed or not supposed to have one.

Yes they are beneficial, they don't put them there for banter.

T-Peice method will work fine too.

Dunno what you mean by "T-piece method" but ill get my swirlpot slapped back on and see if i makes a difference.

I'm sure the webber on my mk2 has an in and out, because the swirl pots are sitting nicely in the workshop bin and have been since early in the year. :lol:

You can't just put the fuel in and hope the engine uses all the fuel. It will need a return of some type.

Unless you've got an electric motorbike interrupter pump that will sense back pressure of the closed carb inlet valve

There are all sorts of interruptor pumps available, bike carbs require the very low pressure bike ones but a Weber is gonna need a bit more - Facet barrel style ones are said to be good.

Swirl pots remove bubbles. They can also act as extra reservoir when pump supply is interrupted

due to tank slosh on corners.

You might want check the carb's own filter above the large hex nut below inlet tube.

This is a micro swirl pot whether it has a return outlet or not as the needle valve lets any bubbles out into the float bowl resrvoir and air goes to atmosphere and liquid falls.

So a carb's float bowl removes bubbles too.

Just an update. Managed to make myself a bracket to fix to the weber and re-fit the swirl pot. The car s now running loads better and doesn't stink of petrol.

The car has also stopped cutting out at every junction but still coughed a little at one or two junctions and only cut out once. Litte by little I'm getting it back to running smoothly !!
