Hi guys, looking to sound proof the boot of the 6n2 soon and wondered if anyone could recommend a product? Not really looking to spend Dynamat money

Been looking at a few on eBay but I really don't have a clue what to go for, are the self adhesive ones much of a muchness and what sort of specs should I be looking for (thickness etc?)?

Personally, I have used household grade flash board tape. I get mine from builders depot which is a wholesaler. It is effectively the same thing (aluminium backed tar like stuff) which may need heating to bend to shape and stick better.

I did both doors, rear quarters, bot lid and boot for for less then £50 (5 rolls) so in this sense it is much cheaper then the alternatives and to my ears it is as good as others I have heard with dynamiat etc fitted. But it does take a little more effort to fit, which depending pnyour skills and time may not be worth it.

You can also use just the black "tar like stuff" which is already partially covering the boot floor, this comes in flat square sections and again once heated can be manipulated into most shapes. I get this from auto paint suppliers, I haven't covered the whole car in this, I only used it to replace the stuff I removed from my classic beetle, so this may not do the job as well as others.

I have used Dyna Matt Rockford Fosgate Deadskin and the flashing and I would never fork out for Dyna mat again the Deadskin was good and cheaper than DM but the benefits of the premium stuff is not worth the extra wedge......

but then why would professional audio fitters tend to use products such as dynamat ? if they could use something so much cheaper ? personally you get what you pay for , show me evidence that things like this are better than the likes of dynamat and i will agree ,

They use it because it work , sound deadening is more than just stopping the panels vibrating, keeping the sound inside , it enhances the quality of sound too, no one can you say it does the same thing , if I was doing a job I would want to do the best job possible so would use the best materials, could easily use cheap crap and just rip them off , I think telling some one to use flashing is crazy too

x2 had it professionally fitted before, not much more better if at all then the job I've done myself with cheap materials!!

Also for the above guy moaning about crap advise, it's all down to opinion as I could say your giving out crap advise as I've had it professionally fitted in my old car and now done my own and its just as good so why waste extra money for minimal if any improvements?!

Flashing tape is a cheap alternative to dynamat.

If you want to see how well each one works get a bike bell and add one square inch of each to two seperate bells

i will bet you that both dont ring and if you then take price into consideration and add the same value of each product to the bell you wont even hear a thud with flashing tape as there will be so much more of it for your money.

flashing tape has been used countless times in many installs and the verdict is always the same there is no difference to be heard compaired to the high cost branded option.

a mate of mine did his whole van with flashing tape and it is awsome.

Wow only just checked this thread hah! Thanks for your opinions guys really appreciated! I'm thinking to go with the flashing tape as I'm only on a students budget haha
