carbs too big?

Featured Replies

Max's gt is underfuelling for sure . My mates got them carbs on his ABF, reckon 600's as said above should be good.

It was underfuelling on standard mains, as you'd expect. But after sorting that and the needles out its much quicker than any other 1.3 on 600s

Which carbs has he got an his ABF?

They are ZX9R carbs dude

Yeah 900cc carbs are probably well matched to a 2.0 engine.

What afr should i aim for with this 1.6 hybrid? Got my wideband :D

Too many states to list eric, idle, part throttle full throttle etc etc .

Wired it in yet? You aim for the same AFR as every other SI petrol engine

Full throttle. Fuck cruising thats overrated lol

What sorta numbers am i looking for to make the most power?

Nah max thats tomorrows job

All 3 engines i've tuned against a wideband have reacted differently to different AFR's at wide open throttle, but the ball park to aim for is 12.5-13:1

Cruise can be as lean as 16:1

Idle is less important, mine idles at 10:1 happily, then as soon as you go to 1/8 - 1/2 throttle and accelerate, flucuates from 12:1 - 15:1

EDIT: The AFR to aim for is all covered in the little book you get with it eric

It's ALL about part throttle douchebag, or you'll be forever fuelling up...or melting shit!

I wanna try 400s on the AEE, throttle size works out best at like 25mm and my carbs are 36 iirc!

so.... can anybody actually davise me on what i need to do then? i need help and advice here

Max when I drove your car last, you could feel it coming on but the AFR literally mirrored the performance, setup well it'd be ace. As both you and I know, with 2-3 changes we made a lot of progress, they're fucking easy!

Aye, as soon as the AFR moved away from 10:1 at what it picked up really well, getting to around 14:1, still a bit lean.

400cc carbs are certainly the way to go though, gonna try them on the AEE as it has a similar sized inlet valve.

This may be a good shout actually, be worth a try. Are you going 1.6 then Maxwell?

Was this with or without the NOS?

Also why is the torque curve so unsteady?

In the breadvan yeah, on ZXR400 carbs. Just to make a it a good run around, its not getting a cam etc.

I'm also wanting to put something into the jetta 8-)

Why no cam? Sell out

Coupe

I think he's doing right actually! Standard AEE with carbs.

It ain't a maximum effort car, just need a secondary daily thats fun and good on fuel.

Then can go balls out on the coupe.

Forgot you even owned that coupe lol .. GET IT FINISHEDDDD...

Tbf once I've got mine in I'm getting a afr and having a go myself, nick will more than likley help as i like his company <3 lmao

I want to try some 400cc carbs on mine tbh, the AEE inlet valves are tiny...but then again mine makes good torque low down but doesnt peak so high..hmm

Not just the carb size that dictates that though, i think the fact your running a cam thats desgined for a revy 1.3 will be making the biggest differance...

It's been covered so I'm not adding much here, can't be arsed to find a link in the FAQ, but basically the highest intake air speed needs to be in the carb's venturi, so that needs to be smaller than the inlet valve for maximum efficiency.

Mikey made a very good point which I think could do with being repeated.

The 1.6AEE intake valves are only 36mm. The carbs can be smaller than this because they flow more efficiently than a poppet valve, which might only be 60% efficient.

I got some 400cc carbs off something or other, but the butterflies are 34mm which is the kind of size I'd try first for that engine.

Look in to cam lobe seperation angles and how it affects engine performance.

I know, all covered in A.Graham bell - 4 stroke performance tuning ;)

Shutup nick/eric/jamie

True. I've actually just reached that chapter today

Such a good read, you got the forced induction version?
