any help please with car knocking tracking out

Featured Replies

hi all .. i have recently put new bottom arms on and disk and pads and track rod end arms . i then got two new tiers on front put on .. i have since doing all this had the car tracked 7 times and it still is not done ? the moment i leave the garage and get onto main road it has knocked its self back out by a degree so put back on tracking set up and re do it and then same happens again .. i have checked all basic things such as all nuts bolts been tight there seems to be no play in iver side when move up down or left right and so on ... when driving it feels like I'm driving on a v if i turn ever so slightly it wants to fly off to witch ever way you turn if there is a crack in road seems it wants to follow it .. there camber is set properly . all suspension is exactly same adjustment .... has any one had this problem before or even have any idea of what could be or what could try to solve this as its a joke now how everything is new and keeps frowning its self off track .

any help would be much appreciated thank you guys

If you're confident about the bottom arms and steering, work back from there.

Subframe misaligned, or play in one or more of it's mounts?

Play in a wheel bearing or top mount?

Are the lower arm rear mounts tight enough?

Are the lower arm rear mounts tight enough?
thanks for help ... i have been off the bottm arm back bolts that hold frame in with a bit of scaffold bar me even more sure they are tight the bottom arms and so on are brand new been ball joints arm its self all rubbers and so on ... only thing i could think of is maybe as daft as it sounds the rack been lose for some reason .. going to get over pit today and have more of a look for the problem ..

iff you still have problems doing it your self, i definitely recommend bush tyres, they have state of the art laser wheel alignment gear ect, 35 pound all in. they dont have these little pissy kits smaller garages or kwick fit have ect

Are you sure that:

Tyre pressures are correct? This, of course won't alter the tracking, but could well produce the other symptoms;

The threads on the track rods/track rod ends are OK?

Regards.

thanks again for the help .. all thought i have had it on 4 wheel alinglment now and still soon as i drive off its back out exact same amount .. i am going back again tomorrow morn to re try .. i have also had car up and over pit again today checking everything tight in place and so on and its all as should be and when get bar in and so on nothing is moving ... and yea checked the pressure in them there all same and all new so not one with less tread then other . its baffling me and also the garage who have been doing the tracking .will be 8th time tomorrow in two weeks i have been back to get done all thought i have only paid for it to be down twice .. if stand at front of car after going down road for 5 min the passenger side will be straight and driver side toeing out . clearly the rack when driving will spreed what its out by over both wheels as rack trys to go straight witch would mean its out half a degree there for 15 mph think it works out at hard as hell to work out this tracking in mph and so on but think thats right sorry if I'm wrong so any one els had this problem before or think anything els i may have missed ? thanks again for your replays

Hub nuts tight?

  • Author

like say bud .. been under it today with a 4 foot peace of pipe on end of t peace .. and made sure the sub frame was tight then i chekced the rack was tight and then done the hub nuts and every last nut and bolt tbh that is linked to the hole front end ... from strut tops right to the ball joints from there to back end of the arms witch go fru sub frame to the sub frame to the rack then after that nothing els is connected as far as i know ... this all started i think from when changed bottom arms and they are over tight if anything .. thanks again for help

not the only one cost me more in fuel going back there and so on then would to just fuck car of get new one lol ... all i know is got two brand new bottom arm's on it . and track rod end arms and ends . every last nut and bolt is tight more over tight if anything . and soon as its tracked with in a mile down road its back out again and each time dose it its bang on a degree .. iv done everything i know what i can to check things and so on thought some one might of had same problem on here but must just be my luck lol .. its so hard to keep in a straight line thought even tho its only just out .. as said above its like I'm driving on a v .. i can not just drive in straight line I'm always correcting steering wheel even at 40 mph almost as if i have huge camber on front and its on side wall if that makes seance its so hard to explain lol ..

i went back to garage today and it was 3 mm out of track .. we did not change anything and i went for a drive covering half a mile .. and then put them back on it was then out a exstra 2 mm there for 5 mm out from that short travel .. could this be coused by top mount rubbers ?

Well the strut moving will effect caster/camber/toe, depends if it's being jacked up between adjustments?

no its been put onto space savers wile we work out whats going on and the tracking gear sits on top just so nothing is been jacked up or upset . drove to garage put them on checked it took off drove it put back on and had moved with in half mile with out even adjusting anything so all still tight from last time was done ..
