1.4 ABD/GT Bike Carb conversion in parts

Featured Replies

Despite spending the best part of two years collecting this together with the intention of fitting it all into my mk1 golf, a combination of getting pissed about by many people I'd hope for help from and dire financial straits means I need to sell up.

Parts are as follows:

1.4 ABD engine - block, head, inlet all as one. £75.

Ported and polished Polo GT head with 1.6 cam. £100.

Vernier pulley - SOLD.

Set of GSXR600 SRAD carbs, dynojetted stage 1. Chip on one inlet trumpet. Plus...

pre-cut base plate for oval port 8v heads and length of pipe to make an inlet manifold for the carbs. £65 for the carbs plus inlet material.

If you want the lot together - £220.

No swaps unless you have a relatively new and perfectly working DMTL carb jetted for a 1.3 with air filter, which we can deduct from the price.

I can provide pictures if needed.

All items are collection from Rochford, Essex. Please PM on here or contact 07711 6 four one four 04.

Cheers, Dom.

what sort of power would this be putting out mate?

Hi there,

It'll depend on how well the inlet manifold is made, the carbs are set up and what exhaust it's mated to but 90bhp+ at the fly is happily achievable. My intial goal/dream was to get it set up well enough to crack 100bhp, but I didn't know if I'd be doing that with the 1.6 cam or a 'standard' polo GT cam, and that would be with the full stainless system already fitted to the car.

You won't get much more power out of an ABD than a 1.3 GT bottom end, but they're a fair amount more torquey. :)

Definitely interested in the carbs and inlet material for £65, i'd like to see some pictures though. And would you be able to post?

Interested in the head. Who did all the porting and do you have pictures?

Thanks for the interest gents.

I'll try and get some pictures for you tonight when I get in from work. Postage is difficult - work keeps me away from anything approaching sociable hours, but depending on how quickly you need them we can certainly have a chat about it. The inlet trumpets are brittle though - the chip mentioned was caused when I received them initially.

Interested in the head. Who did all the porting and do you have pictures?

I don't know who ported it, sorry. It came loose with an AEX block that was sold to me as an ABD several years ago, and I didn't have any other information supplied. As above I will try and get pictures tonight - are there any bits of it you'd specifically like pictures of?

Cheers, Dom. :)

The photos of the head porting aren't coming out properly, but this is the cam fitted:

If you're still interested I'll pinch my housemate's camera when he's back at the weekend. :)
