Hi all

The time has come to let go of my GT engine that I've been running in my mk2 since last November.

Its a 3F block and head, I was told it was on about 60k when i bought it last year.

Before fitting it, I had the head skimmed (5 thou taken off), 3 angle valve seats done, brand new valves, guides and stem seals last November (receipts to prove) The head has double valve springs (not all GT's have this). I also gave the ports a light going over with a cartridge roll to remove the casting marks.

The rocker cover is painted mars red

The bottom end had been painted mars red however the paint has started to peel (done by previous owner)

When I fitted it I also refaced the sump and used a new gasket (also has the 3 flywheel end bolts converted to socket heads). It also had a new cambelt.

Had a brand new clutch as well.

The Gearbox is an 8P - which had it's fluid changed early September and since this feels like a brand new box.

Carbs wise - they are CBR 600 F3 carbs, using 170 jets (dynojet) which have recently been stripped down and cleaned internally, as well as being balanced to the engine this weekend just gone.

Manifold wise - it's a steel manifold with vacuum takeoffs - lots of time was taken over this and it shows. It's also port matched to the inlet.

This is an engine that is proven power. It was rolling roaded last year by PDQ in Slough and it was rated at 85hp at the wheels - meaning over 100 at the fly.

I average 40mpg, but have got 45 on a good run.

I've been using this engine every day to do a 40 mile round trip - I've done approx 8k in it in the last year so you can be sure it's reliable.

I'm asking for £500. This is for the engine, gearbox, inlet manifold, carburettors, and ashley mild steel 4 branch manifold. This will also include a mk2 Dizzy if required.

This is a fair price considering the cost of using a rolling road, plus the machine work and parts cost.

must ask little bit scared of my pooey brakes, will i need to do something with them?

the other thing I'm running 13" smoors so i dont think it will get a good top-end so wont need to stop that much?

How much is that likely to cost and what bits do I need? Would be a great help!

Hahha Thanks! any idea of what cost it would be i had a quick look on the forum but it doesnt really 100% say what i need and Stuff? would you recomend i put better brakes on it or will i manage with my poeey standard ones?

best bet is braided lines, vented discs (drilled and slotted if you're feeling fancy) VW2 calipers, and greenstuff pads.

These are more than adequate for a Polo, and only scare other drivers as they are used to having a Polo.

Your brakes should be OK for now - but I would upgrade them in the future as you can never have too much stopping power.

okay will i need new calipers or will the disks and pads fit in the original callipers?

you'll need vw11 (2) calipers which are easy enough to find on here or at a scrappy, they're stamped vw11 on the side of the caliper.

239mm vented discs and the pads to suit and theyll fit on your existing carriers mate. you can get decent discs and pads off europarts cheap with the cp discount!:)

Bring one of your wheels with you when you come to get the engine for a trial fit. That should be all you need but I would say fit braided lines as well if your budget allows.
