Quicky - not displaying tax

Featured Replies

Hey hey, quick question.

I know when you tax a car online, you have a 5 day "grace period" where you can get away without displaying the tax disc due to it being in the post etc.

I know this works for when it's taxed before it expires (eg done by midnight on the day it expires)

My question is, I taxed mine yesterday (2nd) online, so was technically expired for 2 days...obviously I won't receive it til next week...

Anyone know where I stand with driving the car now? :)

Yeah I drove for weeks with none whilst the DVLA had it, wanted to know the actual legality not what i could probably get away with lol!

You've taxed and payed for it from the 1st Nov so you are covered, if you do get a problem just produce the email conformation, Plod should'nt be a problem as they have direct access to DVLA records where it will show it's taxed from the 1st, only problem could be with the parking enforcement idiots

If you get any shit just say you paid for it 5 days before the expiry date and it still hasn't arrived. As said they will know you're covered anyway and with how shit the DVLA are at their job its probably not an unheard of scenario among the plod

i got nailed by the wardens for this, issued me a 30 quid fine, made an appeal letter with pics of old and new disks and they cancelled the fine

  • 2 weeks later...

I lost a tax disc once and drove around for the full 6 months showing the old disc, never had any bother.

At the end of the day it was taxed and the police have access to that information.

That is illegal tbh - not acceptable. Still illegal not to display it even if it is taxed

you don't have grace period anymore i think

You won't get done for no tax - just failure to display.

Yeah I know there's no grace on taxed or not, was just displaying. I know there's 5 days grace for not displaying if taxed by midnight the day it expires but wasn't sure about taxing it after that.

I just left car on private driveway to be sure until it came :)

Just don't park anywhere and you'll be fine.
