I had a 2k budget I am 20 I bought a 1.8 MX5

What are your needs in a car?

Needs to look good in tesco carpark and enough room in the back for some freshies.

Na I just use it for work and the usual chilling with mates, going to meets etc.

golf gt tdi or if you can find one for £2k a fabia vrs both pretty quick and look cool with plently of room for mods.

E36 Coupe. Nice 323 on Edition at the moment.

BMW E30 (318, 320,325 etc) insurance shouldn't be too bad providing your license is clean and you don't opt for the biggest litreage you can find (I know my friend had no problem insuring his aged 19/20 for not that much) and you can pick up a decent one for less than 2k, just need to shop around, try E30 forums. There's plenty to mod if you want to or they are just awesome as standard. Iconic car (IMO) and personally I think you get a lot of bang for your buck, plus they are RWD so if you ever wanted to you could drift it, or just have hair raising fun in the wet/ice...

My friend got a 318is (1.8 coupe) for a grand and insured it for the same amount (I class this as not much for the age of him and power of the car - his budget was also 2k at the time as that was what savings he had), real head turner, had next to no problems with it and it was a lot of fun, he always said it was great to drive and it made him happy whenever he got in it. He only sold it due to the fact that one day when it was icy he slid into the back of a ka and the driver claimed for a broken bumper, as a result he lost his no claims, his premium went up and he had to sell the car.

Was solid as a rock (they are pretty damn heavy too) and it had muchos space inside so if you wanted it to carry anything it could; he once helped me fetch a childs bed on behalf of my mum, which fitted inside it fine with a bit of room to spare... Fuel consumption was fairly decent but obviously if you're going to rag it you will suffer the consequences :p

That'll be a Coupe Quattro.... nowhere near as interestting as Gene Hunt's!

I had 2k to spend on a modern reliable daily and came back with a 30 year old BMW and 600 quid in my back burner, after paying for insurance as well.

The 600 quid got me a set of split rims, and some choice spring chopping will see an utterly pimp daily, doing at least 50 miles per day.

It'll also never depreciate and costs pennies to repair and can be done on your driveway with basic tools.
