Mattie's MK1 Caddy

Featured Replies

All, Thought its about time i should start a build thread on my mk1 Caddy. Bit of history first, bought this in Febuary this year, i'd wanted one for a long time since i was about 15 then this one popped up for sale on here, went to have a look at it and left a deposit, she ran well, drove lovely and managed a trip back 60miles with no issues which was reasurring.

Heres on from when i first picker her up (bumperless)

But then over the next few months bits started getting worse, the bulkhead notorisouly cracked and had been badly repaired before, the rear bulkhead had some heavy rot so did the bed and the primer that was all over it was just growing on me to get sorted. So i took it off the road and decided i was going to start doing some proper repair.

First things first... stripped it down to a rolling chassis did this on my own and took 8 hours! Though theres nothing to it.

Thats pretty much where I'm at today, with me doing the Polo 6n project too i dont get alot of time to spend on the Caddy so this will be an ongoing project over the next year or so. Not sure which direction to take it yet maybe makie it rwd with a 2.0 zetec on a type 9 box or pinto...something silly.

cheers!

Well its been a long time since i did some work to this wagon!

Shes been sat since around the start of Febuary and I haven't touched her.

So now the Polo Project is at DNA Autocare getting some much needed wiring doing i thought why not do some on the Caddy whilst shes away... she'll never find out

Thought i'd start off by pushing her into the work bay, getting her on four axle stands and whip the wheels off.

Then I could get all round it and find out what welding work needs doing so i can try and get all the nessacary parts and tools ordered, as my mates moved out the unit so need to buy an engine crane and welder, angle grinder etc...

Ill stop blabbing and get some pictures up of all the welding work she needs.

Up on the stands...

I've got plenty of material to use to fix it all up, all the bad stuff will be cut out and replaced properly. I have a mk2f polo GT that I'm scraping so ill be using the fresh material from that inlcuding the inner wheel arches to repair the caddys.

Thats all for now.
