Hi guys, first post on here, names Ollie from the midlands. Always loved the VW scene, and have had a 6n polo 1.9 SDI, Mk3 Golf 1.8 Driver and a Mk2 1.6 Driver in the past.

Thought i'd do a little bit of a project thread with my new car, as i've always been into dubs and I like looking at other peoples ideas and sharing my own!

Ok so after a year of driving a sh!tpiece of a Corsa B for a year to get my no claims (i've been driving for nearly 3 years, but always on mothers insurance) i decided it was time to go for something with a little more power, and definitely a VW. After looking at Mk5 TDI's for a while (always liked the euro'd Mk5 look) i felt they were a little out of my price range. Started looking at a few Gti's and really liked them.

So after a month + of looking I came across this gem;

This has belonged to a 59 year old woman since new, and features full leather (in amazing condition), Climatronic, 85k on the clock, full VW servicing history, reconditioned gearbox and new clutch, plus a bunch of receipts all in date order! So me and my good friend Jake popped in his 6n and off we went;

200 miles later and a quick test drive I was happy, so parted with the £1850 the woman wanted, and we started the long journey back in some of the worst weather i've ever had the pleasure of driving in.

It's been nearly a week since having the car now and i've been itching to get started, so I made up a list of everything I wanted to get, and started to get some idea of where i wanted to go with this.

Plans:

First up will be coilovers, I ordered some Fk Streets today, which will hopefully be arriving tomorrow, so will be getting those on to get rid of the serious tractor look.

Next up will be a new double din headunit with DVD/Bluetooth etc, as i'm a sucker for tasty interior upgrades (nothing tacky though)

The woman had serious problems with here RX2's so she binned them off for some AEZ alloys, which i personally really dislike but i'm sure they'll do as winter wheels.

Pressed plates for a more euro look

Fresh Gti badges front and back, as the current ones have lost the red "I"

Sharan style stubby aerial

Headlight restore

BMC CDA or K&N Typhoon? Opinions on these please :)

I do want a whole exhaust system, but I want to go for the hidden tailpipe look, nothing worse than a horrible great pipe sticking out the back imho, also not too loud so i sound like the local boy racer, so opinions on systems would be great too

May or may not remap, I know there's not a great deal to be gained and i don't want to put undue stress on the cheesebox, exhaust and BMC/K&N will probably be enough.

Last on the list for now is wheels, I won't be putting them on until the summer anyway which gives me an ideal amount of time to look for a decent set, preferably BBS RM's

in regards to the head lights, i done an experiment on my old car with a kit clicky click

and i done it again on my new car clicky click (its about half way down in that post)

also, in regards to pressed plates clicky click i got mine from GTi international from the DubMeister stand, but you can order them online (if you search for legal pressed plates on here, DubMeister pops up time and time again, aswell as some other company, but i can't remember the name)

that's enough from me haha

there is a wealth of info on here, use it at your disposal

but if you have any problems or queries at all, post a topic or use the search function and you're bound to find a quick a friendly answer

Hiya! Yeah I'm really pleased :) I don't think I'm too fussed anyway, I want some RM's really so got some time to save up for them haha

Nice little car you've got there. I'd say mask off a small rectangle on the 'I' of the GTI on the badges and spray them. That's what I did and it looks the same as new ones and a damn sight cheaper. In regards to the induction kit, I picked up a second hand BMC CDA for cheap and it does sounds good with a good cold air feed but I wouldn't say it would be worth buying new if you want it for a really loud sound. K&N Typhoon is a lot louder but if you're getting an exhaust anyway then you probably dont need an induction for sound. Make sure you use copper grease on those coilovers!

looks like you have the red tipped seat belts, i've never seen them before; they must only come with the car if it has leathers

Currently getting the tracking done, and camber sorted as its pretty ridiculous

Just makes me hate those wheels even more :(

I was thinking of keeping them as winter wheels anyway, so this may be a good idea, cheers guys :)

Small update, having to raise the car slightly this weekend as it scrubs a little too much. Also does anyone have any tips on sorting the front camber out? Never really messed around with it before and the tracking place couldn't get them as straight as I'd like

Just undo the two bolts where the suspension bolts onto the hub and then you can set the camber from there. Push the top of the brake disc all the way back for max negative camber and pull all the way out for postive camber etc. Remember when setting it, that when the wheels go back on the floor they will pull in a bit. So compensate for this when setting the camber

And iirc it'll put your tracking out again.

Yup ^^ depends how bad the camber is / how much you want to change it. If you paid for tracking toe and camber, they should have sorted it

If you raise it, then it will ruin the tracking and if you change the camber, it will ruin the tracking. It's a pain in the ass but you might have to get a full 4 wheel alignment done.

Yes as said above, raising the car will put your tracking off, loosening the bolts at the bottom of your strut to adjust the camber will also require you to get the car tracked again..I learned this the hard way myself when I first got my car tracked! lol

The garage I went to could not adjust the camber whilst on the ramp due to the weight of the car on the strut, the car needs to be jacked up (obviously). Give it a go yourself, it's pretty simple, loosen the two bolts/nuts at the bottom of the strut and push the disc in or pull it out to wherever you want, personally I pulled mine completely out and now the wheels sit relatively straight, just the way I wanted it to look luckily enough! :)

No such thing as 4 wheel alignment in 6n2's iirc, just the front two wheels are adjusted, monitors attached to all 4 wheels though

thanks for the feedback guys, will get it sat at a ride height I'm happy with, getting some not so cool knocks etc haha, then probably just fork out for another tracking session.

cheers for the advice on the camber too, i thought thats how id do it, someone told me to use a spirit level as well if that helps anybody with a similar issue haha

reviving this thread a little haha, does anyone have any info on a cat back system for the 6n2 gti? cheers in advance
