Get some audi TT comps man, looks sick & they're 17s so can play it safe with the lowering

i have been on the look out for some, i really like them but they tend to be over my budget, or not in a good enough condition to suffice the cost.

what sort of rim width is the best for 9n's? are 8j's too wide?

You can fit 9j's on the back of a 9n I am sure you can. Just be careful of the offset. TT's suit a 9n, Same as pepper pots,

think i may be getting some 16x8j's this week. if all goes well anyway. you reckon an 8j with an offset of 25 is ok? i checked on a website and it said id have a bit more poke (obviously), so i compared it roughly to my current steels, and they looked like they would be a nice fit, some poke, but not too much.

Yeah man, 25 isn't a bad offset for 8j tbh not to much or to less, Might need spacers unsure on that untill you mock fit them, but should clear everything. :)

what should i look out for that is at a possible risk of being caught? it will be going on coilies at the same time, not really got the time or resources for mock fitting and tweaking, hence why i need to get things right first time haha any idea what size tyre an 8j needs? i wouldn't mind a little bit of stretch, nothing ridiculous though, just a small amount

Well If the Offset is high on a wheel that wide, Say like 50's the tyre or rim could catch on the suspension or wheel arch etc. You should be fine with the right tyre size, Look on here for the right stretch guide and dont skimp out on the cost of rubber or you'll end up in a hedge or a round about (Learnt the hard way).

My mate had 195/50R15's on his Mrk1 golf and the fronts caught on the struts causing the inner side wall to rub down, was easily fixed with some 165/50R15's giving him a nice stretch on a 7.5" rim.

195/45/16 are perfect stretch for an 8j

so before i pull the trigger on these 8j's. what are peoples thoughts on the fitment? i am just worried they will poke out of the arches too much, making them rub on my arches if my suspension compresses.

Get them, if they don't fit sell them. :)

With regards to checking if wheels fit, I've found that willtheyfit.com has helped me out a lot, breaks down all the measurements to help you decide how much spacing you need (if any) take a look at it if youve got some spare time, i was pretty clueless about wheels until i used the website :)

so if anyone is interested, my wheels arrived today. 16 x 8j's with 195 x 45 tyres. nice bit of stretch to them. They look really nice, anyway. gonna keep them in my room so i can keep them safe next up is to order the coilies and get the buggers fitted; hopefully going to be coming after christmas. I'm not really in a rush due to the shit weather and salt on the roads. i will probably run the coilies with my standard steels until there is no salt on the roads, then put the new ones on.

looking at getting my coilovers next week, just wondering though. i have noticed people refering to drop links? are these needed or do they help get it just a little bit lower?

haha i know! i never have my camera on me when i think about taking them. so far there arent really any changes, so its a standard looking silver 9n. i will ry and get some pictures of the wheels up this week, and whenever i get the coilies on, i'll get some pics of that, too!

ordered my coilies last night so hopefully they will be with me next week some point, and then ill look at getting them fitted!

wow it's been a long time since i updated this build thread haha! a lot has happened since i last posted, basically got the car to where i want it to be, just a few small cosmetic things and i'll be done!

Lovely looks fresh bud, all it needs now are colour coded bump strips aha

gonna leave the bump strips black, and colour code the bottom sills just to make it look that little bit lower, and it will just look cleaner. then the rear 3 windows are getting done with about a 75% tint. thinking about getting the front two tinted with a 'legal' shade, not sure yet? and the rear wiper may be going, too. i just want to achieve that sort of clean, classy look, and i think i will achieve it eventually.

I would be very careful with how dark you go for tints not for legality but just too dark and it begins to look a bit 90s I would leave them alone but I think a very low % tint could look quite classy. Also glad to hear your keeping the bump-strips black! poverty spec yo :p
