Made a start on the next part of this, hopefully it will just be general maintenance on the GT for the next while as the garage is currently occupied.

Took too many photos recently...

Started checking over the G40 engine.

Found the oil pump chain to be very loose and rubbing on the side.

Sump must also be dented as its rubbing on that, will need a new one.

Only noticed after cleaning it up.

Also started cleaning up the cam cover.

While taking things apart to tighten the oil pump chain, the cam had to come out to save hitting any valves wrestling the crank sprocket bolt off, then I noticed some scoring on the cam and the bit where it bolts down. So that lot is for the bin. Thanks to Steven and Scott for their muscle to help loosen it!

So took off the head to salvage what I could.

After a bit of cleaning it looks ok. Seems like it's had a rebuild at some point in its life as the Pistons have numbers scraped into the top of them.

That's where the engine is just now, will be replacing all the seals and as many bolts as I can find.

Got it home and started getting it off, running down the ramp backwards was fun!

Plan to spend a lot of time getting the shell rust free, it's still better than the current shell, with no windscreen hole, and that it actually has a complete battery tray! Just some surface rust from the 6 years it's been off the road.

Then eventually the G40 will be going in this with all the remaining pieces coming off the other one.

Looks like a pretty clean shell!

Been picking away at this so I'll stick some photos up before they get lost in the depths of my phone.

More bits taken off now, got a box of stuff for cleaning and painting, a box for wiring, a box for stuff I don't need, and another box of random things that may be useful one day haha.

Found some more sound deadening then chipped it off.

Most of the insides out, headlining is staying as I know it can be a pain to re-fit.

Lots of cleaning to do before getting to the rusty bits.

Only broke a couple of the fuel line clips, 20 odd year old lines were a little brittle so will be replaced.

Started trying to get my head around the wiring, luckily I have a polo outside to check what goes where :)

I'll need to order some proper loom tape.

Would like to make up some sort of frame with wheels so I can take it in and out of the garage, be nice to pressure wash the underside.

Really nice gt you have here. Reading through this makes me want to start buying parts ready for when I find a gt!

Be aswell keeping this up to date.

Since I'm not yet able to add any metal, I've been taking it off.

Ran out of space for spares so the roof got used!

Took out the glass and sunroof.

This needs to go, sunroof hole will be covered later.

I'm getting the hang of angle grinders...

All trimmed back.

Rear view mirror still fits :)

Made a start on the seat runners, side ones still to come out.

Soo many spot welds!

Edges still need cleaned up but its out.

That's all for now, luckily still have a couple of cutting disks left!

A lot of the floor still to tidy up and as expected I keep finding bits of rust that need seeing to.

Been a while since an update, went in for MOT a couple months ago, failed on brake flexis and a missing exhaust rubber.

Ordered some bits while I was away working, surprisingly it started no bother after 2 months of sitting.

And got started on it this morning, had a slightly bigger master cylindar so stuck that on too.

MOT on Friday so should be all good :)

The 51mm throttle body turned up today, also got an un-scored head off Steven, so that will be getting skimmed and the valves swapped over. Will need to find out local prices for 3 angle valve seats to see if its worth getting that done too.

Shell is now sitting on some fence posts, really want to make a proper stand for it.

Been taking far too many photo recently so I'll stick them up.

Lots more prep work on the shell.

Started cutting away the scuttle tray.

And while the grinder was out, done some trimming of the boot, not sure I'll use this, still trying to get the glass off.

When I got the shell, one of the seat rails was half removed, so took it the rest of the way off and found some more rust, would have liked to keep the back of it on to use as a new seat rail mount but will fix the hole and add a plate. The other side was trimmed.

And started painting everything black, so lots of wire brushing and masking, then 2 coats of POR15 engine enamel.

Aaand couldn't resist sticking on a wing and bumper for a look, not that I'll be running 13" wheels but at least it half looks like a car.

A lot more of the same still to do...

Yeh, fancy some bigger brakes.

Going to try keep this up to date every couple weeks.

Stripped down the spare head.

And cleaned it.

Got started on the valves, used some old fuel line to protect them.

Scrubbed the springs etc and covered them in GT85.

Next is to get it skimmed and painted.

And put some standard springs (shorter but more firm) on the back, there's a lot less preload on them so they actually feel softer then the TA's.
