Not much has been happening, waiting for a good time to get everything fitted... though I wasn't happy with the finish on the Mahles, so decided to spray them again, you could still see the dimples from the bead blasting so I used a high build graffiti paint I had leftover from painting my old polo! Then on again with the satin black.

Thought I'd try get some photos, now that its as low as i can get it without coilovers.

Although there are some issues now!

On the passenger side, the drive shaft hits off the chassis leg.

On the driver side, the steering arm hits the brake servo.

So current set up is

Front- 1 coil off 80mm kit and lowering top caps, 20mm of bump stop

Rear- passenger side has 2 notches left, driver side has 3, and 1.5 degrees negative camber.

Aim to get the car done today, then get some photos of it all together again, at some point...

Id spray insides different colours and then the faces leave standard!

Just a few more recent photos, Mahles are off for a while, thinking of spraying the inside barrel red over winter.

Looks a bit funny on the back with the camber and no spacers, need some longer radius bolts.

Some slight progress for when spring arrives, picked up some Zender Turbos, 15x7 et20.

So had to try them on, at night... with 15mm spacers on back.

I'm thinking 165/50/15's will be needed.

Seems like pepperpot caps might fit :)

White grill is spot on! Love the new wheels!

looks mad mate! was wondering what springs did you put on? and how low did you go?

and you dont still have your bump gards do you? I'm missing one on the drivers side door

  • Author

It's currently on a Philj 80/60 kit, with 1 coil off the fronts, 10mm of rubber bump stop, lowering upper spring seats and 6n top caps.

It drives ok considering there's about 15mm of travel, will need to see how it sits with the Zenders on.

The upper spring seats are a little deformed and stuck below the threads, plus the passenger side front shock is a bit past it.

Probably been about 8 months / 5k miles on the budget kit...

i love this car man, looks so good, gives me some inspiration!

Couple posts from another forum to update :)

...

Bit more tidying up done today, rear arches and bottom of drivers door had rusted a lot more in the last couple of months.

So attacked them with a flap disk on the grinder, buzzed it right off with ease.

Got Greg up early today to have a go of his paint booth, thanks again!

Excuse my horrendous masking skills.

Also my filler wasn't that great but came out good enough.

...

Got impatient waiting to paint the zenders, had most of a can of satin back, and a dry morning for once.

So 5 coats, heat gunned in between, then rubbed the flat faces with paint renovator then polished.

Came out pretty good, my addiction to black wheels continues...

Those Zender Turbos look sweet!!

They a rare wheel?

So had a bit of a wheel related adventure today.

Ordered tyres yesterday, went to get fitted this afternoon.

They are 165/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza's.

first garage had one attempt of seating the beads, then they gave up.

Went to a nother garage along the road and with the aid of an air cheeta thing, went on no bother :)

Though there are a few marks needing touched up now but at least they are on :(

Got home and it had stopped raining, so had to check fitment, soon as I jacked up the car it started raining again...

Couldn't be happier with how they sit, that's with the 15mm spacers on the back.

Before they go back on, I've still got 3 centre caps to finish, got to remove the camber shims, and probably fit some ARB blocks to centre the front wheel, should really get the wheel alignment done after too as it hasn't been done since it was lowered...

Lots of iphone photos as usual...
