Why is a valve in a drill? Did you do that to polish the faces up?

Yeh there was a lot of crust on them, used a foam sanding pad and some grinding paste.

Got to work on the head, lapped in the valves, got it skimmed (at Aberdeen head shop) then painted with the same POR15 engine enamel. Fitted the windage tray and sump. Have some valve stem seals to fit the I'll put it all back together. Needing a torque wrench before I fit the metal head gasket, cam etc.

And some arches came, so had to have a trial fit.

Will need a fair bit of arch and bumper trimming to fit.

Did you get new guides or was it within tolerance? Good work on the head...I have to do the same soon too. Probably after Xmas though

The guides seemed OK. The valves were out the other head.

Also realised the front arches are on the wrong sides in the first trial fit, there's a lip for attaching a splitter, must be for the mk1 kits.

Now it has the arches I would definitley say you need a diffuser for the full on look [emoji14]

Little bit of catching up, this time for the GT.

Plans changed for it, don't use it that much so decided it doesn't need to be comfortable, and this will most likely be its last year on the road.

Interior came out, and so did the angle grinder...

Bought some sheet steel, 1mm I think.

Sealed and riveted in.

Painted.

Holey bumper on, and while number plate strip for a week or so.

And recently the brakes were looking a bit past their best, a rear line started leaking at the connection.

Squeezed it in the garage.

So stocked up on parts, standard disks, and decided to try some Ferodo DS2500 pads after reading good reviews.

Cleared some space and took off the old lines.

New lines on and a 4 port 20mm master cylinder.

Starting to look a little crusty under here.

While it was on axle stands, decided to adjust the damping on the front a little firmer, which ment taking the struts off, trimmed the bump stops a little too. And lowered the back a couple notches.

Brakes back on.

More holes in things.

Holey front bumper on, cut a letterbox out of the bumper bar too.

A couple of black seats.

Bled the brakes then rolled it out and done some skids.

And a last one with the cat.

After a horrific 10 hours, finally got a stage 2 subframe fitted. Had a few hours at it the other night, then Steven helped for the remaining 7 hours! I'm sure we had the subframe on and off more than 10 times, with bolts not lining up and bolts snapping it was a fair challenge. Also fitted 2 harder engine mounts in the passenger side.

How come you snapped bolts while fitting?

It was me that snapped a bolt Jake, one of the ARB bolts. This frame was a nightmare to fit compared to mine...

Yeh only one, I just typed it out wrong.

Been for a drive and it is a big improvement, steering actually happens :)

That's this Polo done its final drive, it's getting split up to use parts for the mk2 and to save another polo.

Managed a total of 78miles on track, and used 18 litres of fuel, only put enough in for 20 minutes at a time so I didn't lose any on the left handers!

 

And a GoPro video of the first session, where it got a bit hot and the oil buzzer came on, hadn't lost any bit topped it as t was a few mm from the top of the dip stick. 

 

No other mechanical issues, which is surprising!
