Fact of the matter being.

If you have a constant return, there is negligable fuel pressure and theres a fail safe of any excess pressure just bleeding back to the tank.

Many ways to skin a cat, but personally that's how I would/have done it :)

I'm lost.

Did you say you want to run a glass filterking regulator and a bike pump

i know to put the filter king before the bike pump, but were would you recommend i mount it ?? I've seen some on ebay, approx 60 pound ish

If u run a t piece u defeat the object of a bike pump.

May aswell run a facet pump and t piece.

1 earth wire, and one live which you can run to the ignition or put on a switch like i have done

i will run the earth to earths from the battery negative on the inside of the battery tray near the wing, which is also were i put the battery negative wire from the mk2 loom ? but when you say run the other wire to the ignition, were do you mean exactly ? the positive on the ignition coil ? from this pic i no i take the black and red wire to the battery negative, and the black wire to the coil positive for my rev counter to work. once this is cleared up i think i have all i need lol

From the ignition just basically means any 12v supply that comes on when you turn the key. On my mk2 I just used a multimeter to find a switched 12v terminal on the engine bay fuse box and used that. It draws hardly any current so doesn't need hench wiring etc.

I'm guessing a filter king is a fuel pressure regulator?

If so, you don't really need it. The bike pump is self-regulating and so is the t piece method.

But, should you want to use one, you need i on the 'high' pressure side. Between the tank and pump is low pressure (it's just sucking up fuel) it then goes through the pump and is under pressure (high pressure side). You would need to fit the regulator between the pump and the carbs :)

Yeah .. ovb red is for rev counter ..

Wack a multi meter in the all black wire.. Should give off 12v when ignition is switched..

IIRC just trace the wire back and that will be you are 12v feed.

ok will do i need to buy a volt meter then, the reason i said i would use a filter king, is because some one mentioned that when cornering or when the petrol is low, the carbs can suffer from starvation, so using a swill pot as a smaller tank for the pump to feed off helps ? so i thought a fuel king could do this ? guess i was wrong ?

the fuel float bowls act as 4 little swirl pots/fuel tanks.. Stooring fuel and drawing it in when needed via vacoooooooooooooom :)

o right ok, well gaz has messaged me back, and explained the fuel system to me, legend, would be nice iff some one had an exploded diagram of the fuel system. I'm going to blank off the return at the tank, remove all the in line fuel pump and fuel filter, 10mm hose, 6mm hose, join the feed up with 8mm hose to the tank. in the bay add bike pump to the 8mm feed, then add the 85mm filter king and pressure regulator , then 8mm feed to carbs.

going to order 8mm hose, jubilee clips, accelerator cable with a solder less nipple, universal choke cable and my filter king today. i just really want a filter king even though i dont particularly need it, i could just use the old fuel filter, but they are sick ! lol

Why the hell are you fitting a regulator on a self regulating fuel pump?!?!

I want a fancy fuel filter lol

Mk2 IIRC is just a fuel pickup? No lift pump? (correct me if wrong)

In the top of the mk2 tank is just the fuel gauge sender. On the front of the tank at the bottom right hand side (of looking at the rear of the car) is the outlet and inlets of the tank.

mark since i have a mk2 tank in a mk3 polo, so using the lift pump, can i just remove the lift pump, add a mk2 fuel gauge sender, as i take it goes were the mk3 in tank pump goes, and use the inlet and outlet on the bottom of my tank ? or am i best just using my lift pump in the tank and leaving it ? I'm deffo using a filter king like you have suggested before the bike pump.

It'll probably mess with the pump though, since it's suppoesd to regulate the pressure.

Don't bother, just make it simple for yourself. If you want a filter, fit an inline one. Don't go fancy on it just cause, more to go wrong.

I'd suggest running a t piece with a return back to the tank.

Then should the pump for any reason not self regulate (this has happened to me before) it'll stop fuel pissing out of the carbs into a warm engine bay. It catches fire easily (yes, it happened to me).

So you'd have mk2 tank, clear hose is the feed, bluey one the return. Put the feed into a facet/bike pump then into a t piece. Have the straight t going to the carbs then use the 90 degree bit off the t as a return back down the standard fuel line. No need for a pressure regulator.

It's a proven, well trodden route that works.

Also, everything you've asked here is covered quite comprehensively in the FAQ thread. People will soon get fed up of answering questions already answered countless times on the forum.

I've decided to add the fail safe of the return line

Which will stop the pressure build up and probably stop the pump from turning itself off? ffs dude seriously. Your making like hard for yourself.

Ska wars said he had a fire though , are you sure it would stop the pump from turning off ?

What an over complicated mess!

Just use a decent flow facet with a t piece return.

Use an In line filter.

Simple

cheers for all the help lads, i now know what to buy , and will be fitting it all in january, an also bog bros for rolling road.

So much for a simple to follow 2/3 page guide!

It's hardly needed. Wire it up plumb in lines, turn on engine. Got mine fitted in about 30 minutes today. Cheers for recomending this Nick. Can't believe I've been fucking around with the Facet for months when this seems to have cured all the problems. Car ran great today with lovely power delivery and no spluttering like before. Would recomend this over the facet any day, so easy

Hate to say I told you so...no wait I love to!

Only joking mate - glad you've got it running a lot better!

At least you've some spare carbs now too hey!

No guide needed, it's a pipe in pipe out; a red wire for power and a black for ground, that is literally it :)

So glad you've got this going mate, you deserve it after all the hard work you've put in!

Some work! :)
