ask for 'cash in lieu of repair' and supply quotes from your local bodyshops, You should be able to get a repair to a high enough standard that you wont be able to tell its been repaired.

its also unlikely that the repair you mentioned would write the car off, so you'll be unlikely to get the full market value of the car.

I would get 3 quotes from BMW approved body shops, which will invariably be hefty, and put them forward to the insurance company. If you take a 'cash in lieu of repair' settlement, the car will not be recorded on the register. you can repair it to whatever standard you want, or just pocket the money and drive your motor around.

What he said.

Saf give us the same heads up when they wanted to write my car off, I got paid off the market value of the car minus 50 quid and no write off on the car.

It's doubtful they will write it off for a damaged door, you could always make the damage bad enough for it to be written off tho

If its just a door then take detailed pictures of the damage before repair to show to any potential buyers when you come to sell it to show them that it was only the door that was damaged. Any repair should be done to a standard you are happy with, if its obvious that its had work done then demand its sorted properly
