Yes. As long as it is just an ARB and not a trailing arm. That's a yes for Polos from 1995 onwards, the front ARB isn't needed.

Depends, "should it pass?" and "will it pass?" are two different questions.

"Should it pass?" Probably not, as the suspension has parts missing.

"Will it pass?" Probably depends mostly on the tester knowing that your car had an ARB as standard.

cool. how do they handle without one. I'm interested in this as i heard the car handles better. and of course abit of weightsaving wont hurt it either.

or a ppp stage subframe that makes pre 1995 polos without a anti roal bar depends on your mot tester i think

should pass the mot or unless it has LOADS of body roll

Lower spec models don't have ARBs anyway, diesels usually do due to the extra weight.

My MOT tester said to me "surprised you don't have an ARB on here, all the mountings are there ready"

But that was a 1.4 cl 6n that doesn't come with them anyway.

well its a 2001 tdi so i guess it should be ok. i quite a safe driver (slow) and looking at every possible thing i can take off the car to make it weigh less.

Why do you want it lighter? The handling benefits of the ARB will be far superior to the performance gain from weigh saving IMO

Less roll and better handling = less slow down the more acceleration again if you're wanting to save fuel

the antoroll bar fitted to this polo is more of a safty fecture because it has a HEAVY DEASAL engine up front removeing it wount lose mutch waight or get you any more mpg

if you want it to waigh less remove dash interior carpets spare seats spare wheal door pannels

power steering pump air con pump interior fan/heater

fit some perspex windows then look at getting some carbonfibe pannels made up

or mayb fibreglass front wings bonet bootlid

could even remove power stearing pump aircon into the bin along with pump take engine power along with the waight saved

remove altnator it takes power from engine to turn it just charge change batterys all the time fit a electric waterpump rarther than a belt driven one

wheals tyres fit something that makes less friction harder tyre pressures but less traction will be the down side

handbrake in the bin along with cables just carry 2 chunks of wood to put under the wheals haha

If you like body roll yeah. The only half decent reason for removing an ARB is if it's getting in the way of more lows. If you want to save weight lose some seats.

the 1.4 tdi isn't much heavier than a 1.4 8v with a cast iron block.

as you say removing it doesn't offer any advantages and the likely result would be poorer handling and more roll on corners.

removing unnecessary ancillaries do offer advantages in both power and economy but at the expense of luxuries like air con and power steering also reducing load on the alternator by reducing energy consumption will also give small gains.

if you need to remove the arb to get lower you probably don't need it anyway as the suspension is usually that stiff it almost eliminates body roll entirely.

It will be fine for an MOT.

Not getting involved in anything else regarding handling and body roll haha.

The diesel is only three cylinders, it ain't the heaviest engine in the world..

They handle fine with no ARB, just a bit more dive when lifting off in a corner, but actually gives a benefit too - a bit more traction powering out of corners, as the ARB tries to lift the inside wheel off the ground.
