Probably the most obvious/stupid question and do tell me to piss off lol but are you 100% sure you've got it on the correct setting? (for when doors open etc) When you say fiddling, how do you mean?

yes its in the doors open position, and i had to to piece to change the bulbs but think i may have damaged some of copper contacts on the switchs :\

Did you change the bulb for an led?

These sometimes don't work for both setting on the switch

Did you pull on the switch part? As you may have bent it inside.

The light can be taken apart, if you removed it by undoing the two screws under the lens and removing the unit. Then you van see the back of the switch is held on with a spring, remove it and withdraw the front part, then prise the two halves apart. This will let you see all the metal part and if there is any damage it will be apparent

yes i did install LED's but then replaced them with original as they weren't working, i had it to as many parts as possible and i think i may have bent one of the contacts. just need to find a replacement now

If you are replacing it i would recommend getting one from a golf or bora. as some of those have the map lights which are nice and plug straight it.

Also which type of led bulb did you use? As a lot of the cheaper types don't work well, I would use one with a metal body and one that is the same size or a little bigger. I used one which had three 2w LEDs so 6w and this lit the whole car. Search eBay for 2w led festoon or 3w.
