I took my standard radio out of my 6n2 gti

Now I want to use it, I don't have the users manual so i dont know the code where else on the car would I find it or is it available online ?? Thanks

AFAIK Earlier radios could be found from the serial number, later ones require connecting vehicle to computer with radio fitted. Not sure if this is dealer only or anyone with VW software.

Have you checked in your handbook folder, if you have one, there should be a sticker with radio code?

Sometimes when you re-fit the original stereo after a few minutes it will auto-pair itself and work without the need for code input. Not sure if this depends on how long the unit has been out of use for though, only encountered it when the battery has been disconnected for a few minutes

Can be done at dealers needs to be the original to the car, then the chassis number and serial number is put in to elsapro and that gives the radio code.

Never tried it on something old tho

When you first turn it on with key at first stage. It will say code. Switch the unit off and on again, if it hasn't gone away then turn the key to the second stage. It should now read earn, then work. If it doesn't then keep turning it on and off.

I had this problem too yesterday when my radio went into SAFE 1000 mode after I changed the battery on my 9N3 Polo.

I've never had the 4 digit radio code and when I queried this when I bought the car new, the dealer told me I would never need the code as my radio will only work with my car and simply learns the code from the car when the battery is re-connected.As I found out today that its only part of the story.

The procedure that I've found necessary to get the radio to learn the original code from the car after re-connecting a battery is as follows:-

1. With the ignition off, and the radio turned off, pull the two fuses in the fusebox labelled 'Radio'.

2. Wait a few seconds then replace the fuses.

3. Turn the ignition on.

4. Turn the radio on and it should then display 'LEARN' and automatically reads the original code from the car and the radio will be working normally again.

I should add that this procedure only works if you have the original radio that was paired with the car.

My dealer had quoted me £20 to fix the problem so hopefully this info may save someone else an unneccessary trip to the dealership!
