Wipers wont stay on 6n

Featured Replies

Hi All

Help appreciated if possible. My rear wiper and intermittent wiper actions are ok but to keep them on constantlty I have to stuff a rag under the stalk to wedge it in the 'up' position. I can only get normal speed with this though, no high speed wiping. Is the unit repairable and if not, do I have to take the steering wheel off to replace it. Enjoyed three hassles free months of Polo ownership until this little snag.

You have to take the wheel off yeah. But it's no biggy.

just be careful if your steering wheel has an airbag.

You'll need:

10mm spanner to disconnect batt.

5mm Allen key to remove airbag

24mm socket to remove steering wheel nut

Paint pen - mark the wheel and column so you refit on the same spline

Posi screw driver for column cowling and stalks

Brilliant, thanks to you both for that, it was the airbag that concerned me the most. I've managed to get a Haynes Manual for it today so coupled with that and the above tools list I should be sorted. Off to ebay now to source the part :-D

Airbag:

Disconnect battery ground cable, remember you'll lose radio setting and such.

Leave it 10-15 mins.

Then there's two 5mm screws in the back of wheel, airbag will drop forward, unplug it and put it to one side. Don't touch the contacts on the airbag with anything.

Tbh Haynes will explain it all :)

Brilliant, many thanks mate, I feel far more confident now. It will be sorted soon, especially with the amount of rain due :-)
