Mk3 heater face vent

Featured Replies

Hey people...

One of my face heater vents doesn't fully close in the mk3, so when you have the blower set on the screen has of the air comes out the face vent and the screen takes longer to demist..

Not really had a look - at all.

I know it will be a flap to stop the air flowing controlled by the wheel bit you turn on the vent.

It still opens and closes, just doesn't fully close so air comes by it..

Didn't know if it was a common issue?

I could probably just poke it fully closed with a screw driver through the vent but then when it gets opened it won't close again.

Just didn't know if was an easy fix or what, before I go ripping the vent out :)

Maybe something else, poked the flap ( ;) ) and its fully shut but still air comes out from somewhere, dunno if the pipes slightly dislodged or something?

Is this on driver's side ? as i have the same prob

Theres a lip of foam that gets applied around the edge of this flap, over time it goes too soft and gets blown out, so even when its fully closed it doesnt actually seal as it plastic on plastic, i had to do it to some of mine, i stripped it and applied some sticky soft velcro cut to the shape of the plastic flap so it hung over a couple of mm

At least air comes out. Mine closes itself when i put the blowers on setting 3, which is highly annoying when i need to demist the side windows (current damp problems mean i have to all the time :x) And yep, foam disentegrates comes off and blows away, I used to get hit in the face regularly in my dads golf when the foam fell apart. I think we used some thin draft excluder on my dads, but cant remember.

Haven't looked into it much to be honest, probably is just the foam seal.

Hard to remove the vent? Assume you can take the Vent grill thing out and do it from there

There's a Phillips screw to get out ( go in though the vents ) then just a tug! I lined the edges of mine with badge tape, just left the ill strip on so it doesn't stick, once you get looking at it proply it really isn't much!

Yep, just one screw holds it (or 0 if its like mine was). As said above accesed through the vent itself. Just one point extra to add: Make sure the vent is closed before undoing the screw, as they have a tendancy to fall down into the pipes.

Sweet, love this old car easy lark. Will use a magnetised screwing driving device xxx

Just do the heater mod nick lol ..

The pipe on the back of my drivers one had a habit of popping off on setting 3. So freezing cold legs until I could stop to pop it back on.

Deffo doing the heater mod when I get the chance.

Might just tape it up,

No point doing heater mod Jamie; problem iv got with circulation means it makes my eyes hurt like fuck having the air blowing towards me

well even with the heaters on the foot i just direct it at winder or thighs and i dont feel it on face, Just warms car up faster tbf ...

Though if you are gonna use your's more in summer i'd leave it as i miss the fresh air vents lol

Don't mind the vent setup how it is tbf, warms up plenty fast enough really. Better than my shit diesel.

Just annoying how it doesn't demist the screen properly cause its got an airleak. Heater won't idle properly

standard heaters too cold.

heater mod was too hot.

But sometimes you need lukewarm. Not arctic and not blow torch to the face. Lol.

Mine varies temp fine?

I even checked the valve in mine was moving from stop to stop and it still seems to be all or nothing.

But until I flushed out the matrix last year it was ok. but the amount of crap that came out might have been making a nice restriction.
