Engine all built and timed up, Cleaned all the oil out the pistons that i put in to check leakage.

plugs out, no inlet or exhaust mani.

Turned over on starter, and guess what. Oil on cyl 1. Straight away.

FOR FUCK SAKE.

without the inlet or exhaust mani on can you look into the engine safely exhaust ports while someone is turning it over just to see what you can see mate

if its not rings then it must be a crack somewhere (head, block) or that head gasket is fubarred or did you put a new one on when you rebuilt it this time if its a new one then could be a slight bit of warping on the head around cylinder 1 mate

or it could just be the rings on sylinder one and they are only leaking under high pressure from the compression stroke

Can you see traces of oil running down the inlet or exhaust valve stems? You should be able to see the stems quite easily without the manifolds on.

Bad luck though mate.

The head looked nice and flat up against a set square so i doubt its warped. yeah new gasket

i will have a play and see what i can see

I think from now on i will be purchasing engine parts via paypal.

I wish i could get my money back. Craig.L is a scammer.

Or only buy engines you have seen running and test driven

yeah good point guy haha. i did wonder why he all of a sudden had lost the video of it running?!?! hahah

ANYWAYS

just got it running.

it is still smoking, but ALOT less. i haven't run it up to temperature yet as i haven't filled it with coolant yet.

I'm still worried about cyl1 though. still looks as though its wet. although i have used the colourtune on it and it is deffinately firing! if a little on the rich side.

hopefully it will clear up. if not i haven't a clue whats wrong.

Get it together properly dude, and take it for a good blast! Keep an eye on your AFR and see where that leaves you, need to clear all the oil out of exhaust etc!

is your oil breather on the block all clear Eric just a thought as if its not it could be causing pressure build up in the bottom of the block and could be causing blow by on cylinder one rings if they are the weakest if you get me

just a thought anyways mate trying to help out

Just had a catch up with your thread after having enough troubles of my own with my new engine (still not right though I've not pulled the head yet!). Cant believe you were sold an engine and the timing was out(and not even ignition timing at that). gutted for you dude! and youve rebuilt it all and still having issues with oil in the bores? I will agree with the above comment. A fucked or completely blocked breather puts hell of alot of strain on the crank case and oil presure, and will put extra strain and oil pressure else where. I'm in the same situ as you though. Will never buy an engine again unless I've seen it running. Sad to say after 10 years of polo ownership, but if i cant get it sorted soon I'm tempted to break the lot and go for somthin else! hope you sort it out soon

whats up with yours then dude??

yeah I've gotta whip the inlet manifold back off tomorrow anyway so ill have a look at the breather then. fingers crossed!

leggy - if you EVER get rid of those side skirts, PLEASE let me know. i would kill for a set!

thanks lads

Can I ask who you got it off? I'm sure this is the one I nearly got, remember you commenting on the same thread? Did the man have a gearbox subframe shafts hubs etc etc and tried selling it all in one hahaha!

Yeah i got it off of Craig.L

wish i hadnt now. As soon as i first got it started it smoked.

fook i had a lucky escape then!
