Knocking from rear after changing brake shoes.

Featured Replies

Hey all..

Changed my rear brake shoes on both sides of my 6n two days ago. All went well as my mate is a master technician for volvo and helped me do them, being honest I didn't wanna attempt it alone as i haven't done brakes before.

Both sides were changed and all went well, happy days.

After driving it the next day when i was driving down my street there was a knocking noise coming from the rear. As i speed up and slow down the noise also speeds up and slows down at the same rate.. The noise seems to go if i put my foot on the brake at an average 'just pulling up' force and also is non-existent at high speed. Also if i go round a left hand bend the noise seems to get more noticable, but ONLY when the noise is there. Not every left hand bend.

I've jacked up the car, spun the wheel as a reasonable 'rolling' speed and there is no knocking noise at all.. I've had a browse on the web but nothing thats a solid answer. Also seem to be yank-tanks with rear disk brakes not drums.

Any of you more-experienced clubbers recommend anything to try?:)

Thanks guys,

Aaron

Might be your hubnuts haven't been tightened properly up. Jack the back up and feel if you can rock the wheel or pull it in and out.

New brake fitting kit ? Did he also put them all on ? As they are tricky on drums .

Are they?

All springs, adjusters, pins in the right place?

Does the wheel turn freely when jacked up? or does it stick slightly?

Springs that came off were the ones that went back on, none were replaced

Yea mate seem to be, will actually take hub off tomorrow and have a look inside..

Wheel turns freely and doesnt seem to catch or anything.

The rear brakes to seem to stick on after handbrake has been on over night sometimes since the change?

The wheel doesnt rock or anything when pulled back and forth whilst jacked either
