Insurance question

Featured Replies

Hi lads I need all important advise I have been involved in a small accident I was a third party (not my fault) the fault was admitted by the other driver as my car was parked and there was no individuals present at the vehicle of mine basically a woman managed to reverse in the side of my car. i have provided the assessor with a quote from my preferred garage and the assessor has called them and offered them a 700e less for what the quote originally was so my preferred garage regretted carrying out the repairs to the car. My question is can they make me go to their garage to get the work done even if I don't want any other garage carrying out the work except for my own preferred garages where in this case there are 2 more left.

I was told by others that if you are a third party that means that you are fully obliged to go to a garage of your own choice and the insurance or assessors can not make you choose their garage. Any info on this topic I would highly appreciate thank you in advance.

I was thinking of going to a BMW garage or their approved garage to get a quote or another garage of my choice and get a quote which will most likely end up being very similar to the original quote by my garage of first choice.

maybe the insurance guy on here can advise but if your garage was so much more you may have to get additional quotes and details of exactly what work will be undertaken?

Yeah the details of work that would be undertaken was outlined in the quote. He did not agree to completely replacing the side skirt so the garage after looking at the side skirt came up with another solution to get it right but if you take the side skirt out its 137 less and he offered 700 less.

the choice of repairer is entirely yours, but if the quote is too high they may write off your car.

2 things you are entitled to as a 3rd party in a collision.

1. your choice of repairer, but the insurance might not warranty the repairs so if the standard of the repair is not up to standard you will have little or no help from the insurer so you will have to take it up with the repairer.

2. a courtesy car of similar size and status as yours, with any adaptions you need (that were fitted to yours) e.g tow bar, disabled equipment/adaptions. what you actually get depends on what the insurer has or can source, you may have to fight for it.

Just to elaborate on point 1 you made there that is exactly why the garage regretted to do the work for their price stated because they know that once they agree all the responsibility will fall under the garage so they are not taking any chances they would of probably went lower but he just hung up that's it so will see what the assessor says after this I'm gone go for mot tommorow and if does not pass because of the dent i will be calling them requesting courtesy car thanks a lot for advise.
