Forgot I had a classic policy :(

It's my only car, and they know that, and also mileage was unlimited. It just seems ridiculous that I have now been driving 3 1/2 years and am still paying out the arse for insurance

Right, Admiral have quoted me £2200, fully comp, on a normal car policy (will build NCB), with lowering and wheels declared, thats £188 a month. Doubt I'm gonna get any better than that tbh

Adrian Flux wouldnt insure me, SKy wouldnt insure me, Chris Knott can't insure me, Graham Skykes, Footman James, Elephant, Performance Direct, NONE of them could even give me a quote

No convictions, no claims, no offences, been drivng 3 1/2 years, and drive a car with 45hp, that is taken care of, and I can't get insurance for less than £2k. Insurance is a con, no wonder there are so many uninsured young drivers

There's nothing to say you can't use it as a main car, its just that its generally aimed more at second/weekend type cars.

How come you didn't gain any NCB in the time before you took out the classic policy? If you've been using policies which don't build up NCB to get cheaper insurance (classic/named driver/ect) you can't really complain when you can't get decent quotes due to having no NCB.

Have you tried HIC? They were always good for me until this time around but gotta be worth a try at least. Another thing that could explain your high quotes is your post code, if its classed as a high risk area no amount of NCB will get you piss cheap quotes

paid £1200 fully comp with admiral mods declared with my 1.3 cl with 0yr ncb, first year driving but on a 10 month booster policy thingy from 19yr old to 20yr old

now I'm paying £800 fully comp with admiral mods declared with 1yr ncb, second year driving also in a 10 month policy, I'm 20 now and it expires just before I'm 21

when i was first getting quotes my best was £1500 with elephant so i was gonna go with that as admiral are the same company so i wasnt gonna bother trying them aswell, fortunately i did and saved myself £300 :)

You should be weary of those 10 month policies as a lot of companies won't recognise them as a years NCB, its done as a way of trapping you

i know, I'm trapped now :roll: they seem a good company anyway

Try Brentacre.

When you ring one of the specialists to ask for quote, have a chat with them about why it's so expensive. I've generally found them to be helpful (with the exception of Brentacre, who in my experience tend to get stroppy if you ask them why they can't give you a competitive quote!) - and then you can act on that feedback, e.g. by focussing on insurers who specialise in insuring your particular major risk.

It's so mad how people have massively varied quotes/opinions of the different specialists! I've found Brentacre so helpful, cheapest by far, yet have found flux expensive and not very helpful, but others say the opposite! Tis certainly odd

Are you sure it's £188pm? Have you rang and asked because admiral tend to add stupid amounts of interest if you don't pay the one off payment?

Just re-enforces why it's worth ringing round! Hayesey finds that Brentacre are one of the only places that'll insure his Polo - think that's postcode related.

I used Brentacre for a year yonks ago, then on renewal Flux were less than half the price so I switched. At the time Kerry from Brentacre told me I must've lied to Flux to get such a cheap quote. Understandably I told him where to go, as I don't like being called a liar by a stroppy Welshman.

Every year since then I've had silly quotes from Brentacre, so makes me wonder if there's a note on my file! Think the last quote I got (2 or 3 years ago now) was something like £3k for the Polo whereas Sky were circa £400.

Brentacre have always been cheapest for me even when I switched away from insuring polos for a while. I had to fight a bit a few years ago when I got a quote from HIC/Flux (I forget which) that was cheaper for fully comp than the renewal I got for TPFT, which they then matched. Last year they were a few hundred less than comparison sites were quoting on the unmodded car I had at the time.

I rang them up the other day to switch from the audi to a mk2 saloon. Guy on the phone guessed it was GT'd when I said it had a 1.3 fuel injection conversion and from the sound of it would like one himself! :D

My renewal for it is around £500, (I think I will have to shop around) but this is less than what I've been paying on my other daily cars in recent years. The cordoba and toledo were around 700 while the audi would have been closer to a grand. My other saloon is £150 a year with Peter Best (limited to 3k but I can still use it to go to work)

My brother is paying £2500 on a 1043 mk2 coupe, He's 21 but he only passed his test 12 months ago.

Ouch ): I'm paying 600 on my 6n2 gti fully comp. I'm 22 with a years no claims

Holy shit. Brentacre!

Called them up, got a quote for £1389.99, Thats nearly £1k cheaper than anyone else, AND I can do all my planned mods without any excess charge, AND pay it over 12 months

Thanks a lot for the recommendation!

My friends just phoned them about insuring his ml1 fiesta with loads of mods, and with a 180hp limit I think was still cheaper than insuring a standard polo 6n2 1.4 8v lol.

I couldnt believe it when he told me. I was like "shit, really?"

How insurance should be

Just shows how important it is to ring around everyone for a quote!

Yeah! I think flux maybe better for me now I'm 21 though, never know! :)

I'm with Adrian flux, I'm 20 and have one years no claims. I've also recently just passed my test lol.

Mines is around £1500 3rd p f&t but that's with me declaring wheels, arches, suspension ect.

I'm with Brentarce and each year when the renewal comes flux will be cheaper but Brentarce will match it. I don't like how long it takes on the phone to talk to someone at Flux so i always go with Brentacre. I don't ring around anymore as i did it a couple of years ago on my Corrado and most wouldn't insure me on it either due to my age or mods. My Corrado only costs £650 (23yr, 6NCB). My birthday is in January (I will be 25) and my renewal was in October so this year i didn't renew straight away and have used my bike for work so instead of being 24yr 7NCB i will be 25 7NCB and with Brentarce you can be insured on other cars third party when you are 25 or over.

might be cheaper for young male with policy start date after 21st December

(and more expensive for young females).

Endsliegh already moved. Dunno what they are like for mods, but they are often targetting students,

Thanks EU regulation.

Won't get any cheaper for males, they will just make it more expensive for ladies to bring them in line with each other and make more money while being able to shift the blame for the increase on to the EU

try aviva I'm paying £358 for 8 months, I'm 20 with 2 years no ncb, mk4 golf 1.4 16v with alloy wheels insured
