Basically my polo makes a kinda rumbling/grinding/ dry bearing noise when I'm in low gears and when i dip the clutch.. I'm kinda worried so i need a new gearbox or maybe just oil in it?

Mine made that kinda sounding noise and the bearings in the box had gone so I replaced them.

Not saying this is your problem as with sounds its kinda hard to pinpoint it without hearing it in person and I wouldn't want to point you in the wrong direction.

Maybe get a friend to do a video in the car with you while you drive so it helps us help you a little more... Just an idea

If the sound goes away with the clutch being pressed, then chances are it the release bearing.

Tbs If you use the car a lot o would get the clutch changed, and at the same time fit a new guide sleeve and oil seal as well as changing the oil as this way it will work better ans last a lot longer.

You could do a lot worse than start by checking the gearbox oil level.

Yes id say check the oil level before doing anything drastic.

If that checks out then i'd probably assume its the release bearing...

removing the flywheel and giving it an inspection would be as far as i would go. unless its starting to leak or is damaged in an another way i'd leave it alone.

I think Dixy was referring to the oil seal on the gearbox input shaft behind the guide sleeve, not the crankshaft seal

Yeah sorry I ment the selector shaft seal, as these nearly always leak. Although changing the input shaft seal at the same time as the sleeve would be good practice.

Generally once the gearbox is out I would tend to change as many things in and around it as I can, seeing as it doesn't come off every day.

put some gearbox oil in an its running sweet now no noise at all! cheers guys :-)

Just saw this post, had exactly the same problem your describing! Replaced the gearbox oil in mine also! Made the noise go away, but I'm almost 100% sure its the diff bearings as my diff went a while ago after the oil change and I had the horrible noises you were describing. May not be the case with you, but I switched out the gearbox now its fine ( didnt have much choice )
