is actually quite cool but obviously more than 1 cars gone into it so how structurally sound it is, is questionable.

The best way would be to drop it onto a separate chassis, the fact that you are gonna be extending the length of the body anyway would probably give you a bit more chance of finding one the right kinda size. then mod the body to fit the chassis rather than the other way round so you shouldn't have to get it IVA'd

Yeah like that. Wonder how much wider a reliant scimitar is compared to a polo, probably nowhere near but a rwd V6 polo ute would be pretty dam cool imo

DVLA rules are pretty simple, if the monocoque chassis has been modified, then it needs type approval. In this case, it'd be the IVA.

Have had a few meetings at the SMMT recently, and one of them included discussion with VOSA and DfT about IVA and MOT for electric vehicles. Was quite surprised about how pro-DIY builds the VOSA guy was. Their main aims seemed to be keeping test costs (time/training/tools) down whilst still maintaining a fundamental level of safety checks.

100% would, also back then there wasn't a class for modified commercial so anything like that just had the registration taken by the dvla and the owner was sent on a never ending game of cat and mouse with different sections of the dvla because non of them actually knew who should be dealing with situations like that.
