Hi recently had a coolant leak in the car, owed to head gasket going. Someone advised using G12 plus plus coolant in the car. The bottle I've just received says XstreamG40. Just wondering if this is the same stuff and whether its the right coolant for a Mk2f polo coupe? The bottle says 2005 onwards.

It could well have been me who recommended G 12 Plus Plus, this is an excellent product and can be used in any liquid cooled engine.

Most other anti-freeze products can also be used in any engine, BUT it is the corrosion inhibiting qualities that generally let them down.

The thing with the G 12 P P is that it can safely be left in there permanently, whereas some of the others need to be changed at a stated interval, this is due to the deterioration of the inhibitors rather than the anti-freeze qualities.

I can't comment on the X stream G 40, as I have never used it.

G 12 P P cane safely be used at 50% in water, or even stronger in very cold climates, the thing with other brands is that you need to read and follow the instructions, both with regards to recommended dilution and how long its inhibitors will last for once it is in the engine.

The best anti-freeze compounds contain glycol, some of the cheaper ones, although they may have something like glycol in their name, have never even seen the stuff and rely on cheaper products such as alcohol as the anti-freeze element.

The problem with alcohol in there, is that it will evaporate and even in a sealed cooling system such as yours, will deteriorate over time.

Don't condemn the stuff that you have got, there may well be someone on here who swears by it, if there is, no doubt we will be hearing from them.

the XstreamG40 is an OAT coolant so is long life and it exceeds Quality Standard, BS-6580-1992

so will be fine in the car
