hi guys,

I'm planning on polishing the lip on my bbs Ra wheels , what is the best paint stripper to use and what else will i need to do ? ( I've never done this before )

Most strippers I've used recently are really bad! nitromors seems to just soften the paint rather than make it bubble. I think its because they dont use methylene chloride in them any more so i wouldnt reccomend using nitromors or any of the b&q's own brand stuff as thats even worse. I've heard a few good things about 'eastwood powder coat dissolver' which is quite expensive but looks really good. Theres a few videos on youtube of them using it, and its about 60 quid for a gallon ( you wont need this much but i haven't found anywhere selling it in smaller quantities) http://www.frost.co.uk/eastwood-gel-paint-...pper-946ml.html theres a link to the website that sells both the powder coat dissolver and the paint stripper. Might be worth a try as sanding any paint takes a lot of time. Hope this helps :-D

liquid nitromors a stiff brush n hose a wash it all off after but don't let the nitrous dry out

Nitromorse, found in B&Q, wickes, wilko's etc :)

lay it on, wait for it to bubble, wipe it off

please do this in a well ventilated area and dont breath it in too heavy as you WILL trip the fuck out! last year i was stripping back a bmx frame in teh shed as it was too cold and snowwy outside, ended up thinking the shed was collapsing and that i was being crushed :p

then you need to get sanding them, start with a low grade and work your way up to 8000 wet and dry then get some polish on them :)

dont want to sound like a knob but nitromors used to be like that, its not anymore because there is no methylene chloride in it. I've used it recently to stip a set of wheels and it did nothing to them apart from turning everything green. The best stuff i used was an old tin i found in the garage that my dad had bought and never used

so it doesnt work then ? :/ i might just buy a bottle and just try it , its only a tenner for a little bottle :) what colour do u guys reckon i should do the centre colour? I've done gold already but it doesnt look right :(

Suppose its worth a go as its quicker than ordering some. id reccomend buying some wire wool and using some sort of scraper to help you get the paint off when its softened. If you're gonna strip the whole wheels and polish them prepare for a lot of hard work hahaha and make sure you wear a mask, its not worth the amount of coughing you'll be doing after

yeah :) plus I've lost my card so cant order online till my new one comes anyway :( yeah ill get one , nah I've looked at a few pics of the whole wheel polished and it doesnt look right might do a red centre :) yeah ill defo buy a mask , i dont wanna start tripping out like dadude01

to be fair your not wrong

i forgot I picked up some cheapo paint stripper from a local hardware shop in an orange tin an it seemed to work a lot better than nitromors but I can't remember the name of it

It wasnt mangers by any chance was it? that has an orage/yellow tin. I used that and it was good, but thats the old version. The new version from the same brand is white and looks like pva glue, its so shit.

I've got a set of polished audi pepperpots, not the best wheels in the world but they look good once I've buffed them with some autosol! i'd love to be able to tell you if that eastwood stuff is good but i haven't used it yet.

I used old formula nitromors to strip an entire side of a van, the new stuff is shut! ):

just found the tin it was rustins strypit paint and varnish stripper that I used

yeah the nitromoor only stripped the layer off that i previously painted a few days before :( so I've now decided to spray them a nice dark silver :)

I too concur that the newer nitro morse is shite.

It's probably a bit late now but I bought some of that Eastwood paint stripper and it definitely works on paint and powder coat! Definitely worth using if you still need to get rid of some paint :-D

Nitro-moors is crap unless you use it on thin paint then its really effective but no good for Them OEM Wheels. Tried it on my pots, Rewind them. Ended up sanding all the way to the alloy, Took for ever so i gave up aha.

Let us know if you find a good paint stripper that doesn't effect alloy, Might have ago at my new wheels .

Aircraft Hydraulic fluid "Skydrol 500B-4" strips anything

Read this and learnt something new about nitromors,makes sense that they changed it as the last time we used it we got a gallon and stripped out beetle all the way to bare metal in one go and still had some left. With the one that I bought a few weeks ago (1lre) I ended up using the whole thing on one wheel centre and it didn't do anything, in fact it made them cleaner that's about it. Total crap, and you dont even catch a buzz from it anymore :( .. lol

As nige says hydraulic fluid is a good idea. Would it really strip the powder coat off though? Say if you soaked it for a day or so? Could be on to something here...

Anyone got any other ideas? As I think it's safe to say there's a few of us here who could use the help

Eastwood paint and powder coat stripper, I used it yesterday and it worked on powder coat just fine.

Sure If you use hydrolic fluid it's the same as brake fluid (dot 4) and if goes deap enough it can rewin the alloy/metal as it can corrode to.

Not really sure but, water is the best way to neutralise brake fluid so :/ don't really Want to try that on my bbs's ahah.
