After being on the site over a year and learning alot from people and helping where i can i am selling the polo and getting a mk2 escort which has been my dream since being a boy and being in my dads old mk1, as some of you will know i have just got a new work car (clio 1.5 diesel estate) which i will start a new tread on after i get my bumper and wheels sorted. The escort I'm going to look at is on ebay at the min and is pretty cheap for the condition of it, I'm not going down the cosworth route with it I'm going to use the 2.5 duratec 5cyld from the focus ST as since i test drove a mates i loved the sound of it and is pretty good on fuel and a nice gearbox. The escort will be the car i use on weekends and evenings after work, i will start a build tread on passionford when i start it and put a link up on here if anyones interested.

I'm currently Restoring a mk1 escort.. well building shes a rotten old girl basically doing a full nut and bolt rebuild!

I personally wouldnt know where to start with that mate id be going nuts lol it is very nice though id love a mk1 but prices are high and parts are pretty hard to come by thats why i want a mk2 really and i love the back end :) I'm expecting a few rust holes on the yellow one as there isnt much of a description with it and the guy wasnt too sure on the phone, the white one still needs to be painted as its only in primer so that maybe the best bet for me and theres no engine in it so its already ready for the st lump.

As for parts, panels are cheap to buy, non genuine but they are ok,

I've got genuine Mexico wings, and a genuine rear scuttle to go on as the other had totally gone,

Buying a capri to break for parts for the mk1 as most swap over, and putting a 2 litre zetec lump on carbs in :)

I'd buy the prinered one and make it your own

Would love a mk1 or 2 escort but just couldn't justify the money they demand, my next big project after the polo will probably be an old skool Ford, got a real soft spot for mk1 capri's and they haven't gone the way of the escorts yet

Escort prices are stupidly inflated because they're bought up for the rallying.

I remember when you could get a solid one for £50, and nobody wanted one.

The wise choice today is a 4dr or something with a different badge like a Chevette or Dolomite.

The chevette is a good call but its let down by its gutless engine and the fact the only decent straightforward engine swap carries big scene tax on the rarer parts, other engines can be fitted but then it gets more involved

Plus my dads had loads of mk1s so he knows alot about them.

Mine will come under the 3k price bracket fully done.. Including buying the car :p

Ashi. Why would you even bother?! Once somethings that far gone, it just isnt worth the effort, despite the current ridiculous prices that these cars are going for. By the time youve finished spending, you could buy a far better one.

And LOL at that Mini Van Its still going for almost the same as what the 6N i had cost.

tbh its the only one i could get within my price budget i dont mind doing the work. like I've said overall the cost will be around 2.5k-3k max on the road..

i can do ti to my taste and put what engine i want etc etc

so i dont mind cracking at it.
