because for the same money i can get brembo discs AND pads

I always wondered this , Someone i spoke to a while back said that they have to be warm to be any good? Not sure if this is true

I have red stuff pads with mine as they came with the car , after a quick drive they are awesome! but think there a different compound green/red

Rear discs are wank for handbrake turns.

had a customer come in with a subaru wrx jobby about 8 months ago, had greenstuff pads etc and under harsh braking had basically crumbled and ruined his freshly powdercoated wheels..

Ultimax ones are the same. Just fall apart, dusty as fuck too.

I have had a set of Greenstuff pads in a 110TDI Passat and I can vouch for them 100%,

Already had EBC grooved disc all round with Brembo pads and the Greenstuff are far better.

They tend to squeal at low speed braking but perform very well when hot or cold.......

a little overkill for your loon? Save your cash and fit something sensible. Remember brakes are only one parts of the story... What tyres are you running?

I would go for OEM or the brembos or some pagids.

Reading the above posts, I have noticed the pad crumble slightly although I used the EBC drilled a d grooves with the pads and are far. Better the what I've used in the past

I found with the green stuff is that they are really good initally.... but after some time fitted to the car they seem to go off but still better than the cheap pads.. also they are rather dusty.

But if you need a new set of pads and the disks you have are OK then why not..

Also if you haven't done it in the last 12-24 months change your brake fluid. :)

I found I cooked greenstuff pads on a g40 with hard driving to the point where they literally didn't work after 2 hard stops, I nearly died. Personally, I would never use them on a car that is being driven hard. Fitted yellows to the same car and had no issues.

I've got Dunlop tyres and I'm putting a 1.3 gt b'carbed so need some more stopping power?

i understand the grip on tyres arnt the best but what else can i do?

Yeah, I don't understand why people rave about NEEDING big brakes with more power for road use.

Unless the engines a load heavier, you still need to slow down from the same speed limits, admittedly you can get to these faster but if you're relying on stamping on the brakes last minute are you not being a bit of a dick anyway?

Tbh I got EBC discs pads and braided hoses and I can't even comment on them cause iv never tried to use them hard at all lol.

i can understand vented disks for reducing brake fade, but as for braking power, i have early mk2 calipers with standard pads but a 1.6 16v engine and i haven't died or killed kittens recently. Theyl lock up the wheels if i want them to....

Plus people running 155 nankangs with rock hard suspension on shitty salt covered roads haha

But generally i have no issues with them. No noise, dusty but I'm sure they'll work if I need them to, seem to be better with some heat in them

Seriously give them some proper stick and they will fail you.

Then why spend 3 times the price a set of brake pads? They aren't much if at all better than stock.

Doesn't matter how much power you have, it's how you drive and use the brakes...

Personally good quality standard discs (Brembo, Pagid etc) decent fast road/trackday pads (ferodo, yellowstuff etc) and fluid goes a long way.

I know two brothers who both had mk2 16v golfs, both pretty much identically specced for track,

One had OEM discs/pads

Other OEM discs & green stuff pads....

OEM/OEM was better in every way
