I have recently decided to start up my own business as a mechanic,

I am fully qualified, and for the past 2 and a half years been working at Millbrook proving ground.

I'm really struggling to get motor trade insurance as i am 24 and have always been on my companys motor trade insurance so i dont have any no claims apart from through work...

Is there anyone who has been in the same position?

I had the same problem, getting some crazy prices, try N.I.G that's who I'm with, combined with building & public liability insurance too. Quite a good price too!

My dads with Nash Warren Insurance, has been for many years now, not sure if its cheap or not but might as well give it a shot bud.

Out of interest what do you have to do to be eligible for a trade policy? I'm an engineer by trade but do a fair bit of work on other peoples cars on the side and buy and sell the odd car too. As it is I keep having to pull favours in from a mate with a traders policy to move cars for me, just wondering if you can get a trade policy when its more of a side line/hobby than your main job?

you can get part time trade insurance but be careful what you think is part time they might think is more than,

I'm with RoadRunner! been great and very competitive, i started with them when i went self employed about 8/9 years ago but then went back to work for a garage and kept my insurance going by telling them i still repair the odd car and sella couple a year! also covers my moterbikes;-) look them up

Gipsies and travellers use trade policies so there is nothing stopping anyone from getting one..

Just ring em up and see what they say.

After reading your post properly on a full size screen I am sure you need to be over 30 to have a full traders policy at a sensible cost...
