[SOLVED] Active sub stays on when key is out...

Featured Replies

I've recently just brought a sub, head unit and door speakers, wired them like any other sub I've had but this one stays on even after i take the key out, i even thought that it may go off it i just left it, the next morning came and it was still on. can anyone shed any light as to why its staying on?

I've flipped the red & yellow wires so i can keep the saved settings, radio stations and eq settings etc and wired the remote to the blue/white remote wire.

I've got a Pioneer DEH-X3500UI headunit wired to a VIBE Active Black Air B12 Bandpass sub.

anyone know a fix, I've read that i may have to install a switch but id rather it switch on and off with the ignition like normal.

its because the blue remote wire going to the sub/amp is getting a constant live.

I've wired mine into switch live on the rear of the headunit -

just test which wire is getting constant live when key is out between the yellow and red. and then test the other to check it only gets live when ignition is on then splice the blue wire into the wire with ignition live.

sub will then go off when key is out.

so say yellow is the constant live (maybe wrong) then id splice the blue wire into the red wire so when the ignition is off itll turn the sub off?

if yellow was constantly live splice into the red and vice versa if red was constant live splice into the yellow.

but please check them both when key is in, and out one will have no power when ignition is off but always best to check.

ok mate cheers, ill give it a try this weekend! :D

And it doesn't go to the blue, it goes to the remote wire!

Don't piggy back the red/yellow/whatever onto the blue wire on the headunit.

Although the blue on the headunit should be switched, too. It's usually for an aerial amp.

and the remote wire going to the amp is ..... blue

and I've had mine spliced into the yellow(switch live) for months with zero issues.

was done by a friend who is a fully trained car electrician.

the remote wire has always been blue for me up until this head unit? could explain why its always on then but I'm sure it had a label on it saying remote?

what colour is the remote wire?

if thats the case i may give it a try with mine.

It doesn't matter, it'll work the same. Only said it because it's a wire that's not used - saves you having to splice into the yellow; that's all.

huh?

Google for a manual for your head unit. As this should have wire diagrams included.

Some HU have options in the setting to change functionality of certain outputs.

Think the head unit I've got now has a aerial remote out and a acc remote out.

Ill have a look for the manual tonight, is is ok to splice the remote into the ignition live? It won't cause no problems will it?

Nah, it'll be fine, just splicing in when you don't have to seems a bit unnecessary.

Yeah good point, ill have to try find the manual tonight ready for the weekend, need to get this done I've not had my sub on for the last week so, just hassle climbing into the back putting the fast plug in and out every time..

The sub power is usually permanent, the on and off is controlled by the separate wire, this usually has to be grounded to make the sub turn on but on some you can change the polarity.

The power aerial output from the HU may be OK to use but on some units it only switches when the radio is on, when using CD etc it may not power, depends on what HU you have, also some can be set up with different polarity eg positive when on or negative when on. The aerial output won't power a sub directly, its only designed to supply a very small control signal.

Is there no output to switch the sub? If there is, this will normally switch negative which is the usual for controlling the sub.

Wiring diagrams would be handy here.

seems to techinal for me what youve just said, anyways heres my headunits manual

I've done what its said in here but my sub still stays on...

http://docs.pioneer.eu/Manuals/DEH_X3500UI...manual/?Page=13

i had to switch the red and yellow wires like its said to do in the manual, so that i keep all my stored stations and eq's

i dunno if someone can point out what I'm doing wrong?

You need to change the amp wire from the permanent live to the ignition live easy to do just get yourself a multi-meter and see what wire gives off 12 v when the ignition is on.

i was just reading the manual (link above) and under power cord number wire 9 (blue/white) its saying connect wires 9 to 11 when pin 5 is an antenna control type, in another type of vehicle never connect 9 to 11? maybe thats the cause i have those connected?

I'm not sure what pin 5 is on my cars stereo loom... and cant seem to find out anywhere

@Tiggy2142 - I've not got it wired to the permanet live i dont think?

Have you got the manual for the sub?

In the HU diagram you posted under (10) there is a blue/white wire which is the control wire for an external amp. This should be controlling the sub.

at the moment I've got wires 9 connected to 11 and wire 10 wired to the remote wire running to the sub.

yes I've got the manual for the sub doesnt really say anything other than connect to the HU with the remote cable provided, and if the headunti doesnt have a remote turn on cable then use a 12v power supply.

then further on in the manual it says the voltage must be between 12v and 15v DC

shortly I'm going to go disconnect wire 9 from 11 and leave wire 10 still connected to the subs remote and see what the out come is..

That sounds good.

Have you got or can you borrow a test meter? It would help to know that everything is working as it should.

Is these a switch on the sub to set the polarity of the control signal?

i haven't got a multimeter no, i could i suppose go buy one, theres no switch on the sub

SOLVED!

if youve been reading this, look at the manual link i posted above, if your having these problems and your headunit is like mine, disconnect wire 9 from 11. either connect wire 10 or 11 to your sub's remote wire.

wire 9 must have been giving it a constant power from the cars loom rather than the headunit itself.

thanks for the help :D
