Well basically I'm going to cut the springs on my polo but I don't know how much to take off? Obviously it can be too low cuz that would screw things up.

Has anyone does this on theirs? How much did you take off and how much did it Lowe the car by?

P.s. I have the standard 13" alloys on my car

dont do it, will bust up your shock absorbers. Just save up for a shock and spring kit or coilovers.

I was only going to remove one bar of the spring? Does that make sense?

I've been thinking of doing this too and done some reading about it and people seem to have mixed opinions on the whole thing but some have said it's fine if you only cut a sensible amount. How much can be cut from the springs before it's not sensible anymore though? I've been hoping to do 60/40 but i don't know if 60 would be too much for the shocks and all.

there is no difference between chopping a couple of coils off a standard set up, and fitting -40mm springs to a standard set up. removing coils will also stiffen up the ride too

if you chop the spring so much that the dampers are bottoming out then it will fuck your shocks but it would be the same if you fitted proper lowering springs that are too short too, with a bit of common sense you can't go wrong. people that tell you they did it and their car drove like shit, obviously didn't have the common sense to do such a remedial task properly

my stock car had chopped springs , i know its not a road car but it still didnt do any harm to the car , it was running standard shocks too , as long as u dont chop too much off then u will be fine :)

Just ensure that when the car is jacked up (so the damper is fully extended) the spring is still retained and tight, so it will still pass an MOT.

Better to take the time and put some thought in, maybe cut smaller amounts off and try and try again as apposed to taking them off and chopping them in half

1.5 coils, thin disc on an angle grinder straight through within five seconds, bob's your main man. Be careful not to catch the next coil accidentally, whatever you do.

Try the rear axel on a b5 passat. the spring just falls out....(and I've seen stock ones flop around too.

Keep an eye out on eBay. I've bought many sets for around a tenner. The last two I bought where never used and set me back £3 :) can't get better then that

i know a few people that have or had chopped springs, (not myself) going for a kit or coils is better but if you just want low without the cost then its fine. weld the top and bottom of the spring in place if you can, saves it popping out of place.

I'm sure your not daft and going to chop half a spring away.
