Simple question really

Is it possible to use a motorbike battery for my car?

The car isn't used daily and is a mk1 polo so doesn't have too many electrical items to worry about.

so can I use one?

In theory no problem, just I doubt most M/C batts would have the cranking power required to spin the engine over, most M/C starters are the size of a coke can

Probably wouLdnt have the cranking oomph and I think terminals are totally different.

If you wanna save weight try a Motorsport battery.

The main issue is size not weight, the smaller the better.

But 1000cc bikes aren't going to be much easier to crank than a small block vw engine surely?

shuriken or westco do small powerfull batteries. i run a shuriken in my mx5. its much smaller than a std polo battery but has around 850 cold cranking amps. pricey mind, dont expect much change from £120

yeah arent they made by company called optima? not sure on the specs of them but I'm sure a friend of mine had one in his bready instead of the normal batt.

I have Varley Red top stuck in my head, maybe a Motorsport type I remember from my childhood, think that's what my dad ran on the race cars back in the day

I don't know if its much help but the batteries on the new ups are tiny if you wanted to keep it OEM not sure about the exact power but would have thought it would have been ok for an ole olop.

I'm aware of some stop start cars having auxiliary batteries to keep running the radio/blower motor etc whilst the engine restarts

Sorry for slow reply been quite busy in work, they are approx 180 mm X 180 mm and 190 mm in depth.

£120's cheapish for a motosport battery at work they are double sometimes tripple aha

Have you try'd any double A batteries? 1 Duracell rechargeable should do the job :)

as i said before. for the money you will be hard pushed to find better than a shuriken battery (made by metra, so good quality) only prob is finding a uk supplier.

the smallest 12v they do is a 20ah jobbie, that measures 7.5"x6.5" x 3" deep, pretty small. weighs around 6kg.

£90 inc post from usa! so if you can find a uk supplier, you'll probably be able to get one for around £50

Probably harder to start than a polo. They generally have far more efficient starters than our cars.
