Just wondering if anyone fancies sharing their NA engine ignition maps and possibly writing a bit about the engine spec, such as:

11:1 CR

Nope, that's from the VW self-study guide - so you'll have to put some effort in yourself, lol! Does Megaspunk not come with loads of example maps these days?

Yeah, but I don't know where i left the CD, iv found lots of map examples, just a bit thin on the polo front

Golf 2.0l 8v with a Piper cam - example map from my Emerald system. Made a heady 145bhp according to the map notes.

Been browsing a bit, found this which is a cammed 2.0 8v 11:1 CR

a lot of the maps are very similar. Have also read about some rules or thumb, dictated by combustion chamber design, cam profile etc.

Leaner cruise will obviously require more advanced but then need to keep an eye on exhaust temps, but I'm just genrerally reading a few maps and some are very similar, need to find the CD for the list of base maps.

I like this thread. I am going to look on my Megajolt CD now.

Edit* I have a base, 205 1.6 GTi and 2.0 redtop map on CD if they would be any help?

Yeah post them up, there's a lot of patterns between maps anyway so analysing a variety of maps and seeing what effects what is good, can't find my CD so no maps as of yet, I'll be using TPS loading also but MAP gives a good indication too I guess :)

How would you convert the Polo map from the GK self-study guide which is 16x16 to the 12x12 of Megasquid?

I've seen mention of a interpolate.pl script but not found it.

Just combine/ignore the upper plateau variations?

This map is from a Mega Squirt 2 ECU for a 2 liter 8v VW engine

I think the first table is the main spark table and the second table only kick in under certain conditions.

Mine seems serious advanced in all areas. Boggs put this one on.

I complained about not seeing much power although usually retarding too much causes lack of power and too much advance usually signals knock.

I'm glad i've got rev limiter to 6500 rpm.

But is the GK Dignition maximum really only 30 degrees?

For a bowl in piston cross flow design I'd expect 35 to 37 degrees according to

One more thing, I know there's idle stabilisation, but how can the GK  idle with 0 degrees advance from 700rpm odd to 960rpm? Is the GK Dignition graph plot showing the advance amount to be added to 5 degrees static?

 

So maximum spark point actually occurs 35 degrees BTDC.

That is for improving emissions at idle, late burn hot manifold etc. Bit like a vac retard dizzy
