What other poly bushes fit TCA mk2

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone experienced trying some poly bushes for another car on front lower track control arms??

Been looking on Ripoffbay and they seem really expensive for what you get compared to same bushes for mk1 mk2 escort TCA about £10 compared to around 50 for the polo??

Does any other car actually use the same setup as a polo?

As far as I know when searching for new TCA's they are unique to the mk 1-3 polo's. Which probably explains there cost compared to the more "popular" Mk1 and 2 Golf.

Most other VW parts are interchangeable and normally listed as covering more than one model of VW, but as the rest of the range had bolt on sub-frames and the polo didn't I wouldn't hold much hope of anything else being a proper fit.

I ment mk1 mk2 escorts and Capri! From what I remember of my old escorts it seems very similar set up! Just need dimensions? Il try sending email to couple of company's with dimensions to see what they come back with? I'd have thought most roll bars are about the same diameter of cars in the 80s and TCA holes are prob very similar? But look in any rally mag or site and you can get pairs. For about a £10

Think the arb is quite a bit thicker on the ford.

The ball joints are also different on the ford escorts

I am running rear adjustable tcas that are for ford escorts but I made an adapter to alter the ball joints

Iv confused you all!! I don't want to use Escort Arms? Just the bushes as shown below including prices? Hell of a saving if they fit?? I used to go through them often in my escort years ago and they were cheap in comparison to prices for polo's?

It's just down to the widths and diameters?? If any one got a polo one available to measure??

Plus those prices are pairs!

Any news on these?

The Escort ones are all wrong, totally different dimensions let alone size.

I think using incorrect bushes is gonna cost you more in the long run than the correct poly, for a worse result than standard rubber. They don't adjust like rubber does, they're moulded to be quite a precise fit.

What's the point if it ain't gonna handle, and what's the saving if they're gonna be minced in two weeks..? My advice, get the right ones or don't get any at all.

Cheers for that! All I wanted to know! My arms have done hardly any mileage, and the rubbers are hanging out already!

Always worth looking into these things tho mate?

There probably is a set close enough, but it'll be on something far less obvious like Hyundai Magnetis rear dampers or something, it'd take all year to find.

I've got bits on my Polo from various different manufacturers and models, including suspension parts, but this is a bit of an optimism killer even for me (Rover 400 rear ARB fitted with 200 front links, pictured).

dont know if its just me but cant see anything?

The picture is there, you may have your settings wrong - can you see avatar pictures in the left hand column?

If you could see the picture, you'd see the ARB - it hangs like a staffs ballsack!

The nearest i've found so far is the outer front TCA bushes for non-GTi Peugeot 205/309 to fit the outer TCA of the Polo. These take the same load, which is critical (no good using bushes designed to take side loads when heavy braking demands a strong crown due to the bush being loaded laterally).

But i think these are too big to go in the Polo TCA's. Inner TCA mounts are side loading, but bigger than the Pugs or most dampers, so good luck finding some suitable ones.

The ebay link above looks alright to me. My Powerflexes were more expensive, some of the cost due to stainless inserts, and whilst the outers are excellent, the inners are intolerant to heavy castor angles when used with castor correction blocks.

I made my own castor blocks with maximum possible castor of about 16mm, and the inner TCA bushes wanted to pop out until i'd got them just right with a bit of 'memory'. Tedious having to keep on top of it until they settled - Daihatsu Fourtrack exhaust hangers would've probably held better tbh!

wow your car in that pic looks high?? prob just down to the pic angle? anti roll bar look cool tho;-) il go to my local rally supplier over crimbo to pick up some bushes to sort my crazy steers out;-) then next job is fix the water leaks causing condensation;-)

The front was lowered but the back was factory, these have a high rear valance/bumper so even when they're squatting like a Labrador squeezing one out, they still look high from the back. Not helped by the coupe's raked rear window. Then it's unusual to see 185 wide tyres with standard height, especially dusty ones in a dark picture, so this photo really makes it look high.

In this shot, the petrol tank is resting on the floor - yet the back bumper is still a foot in the air. It's a MK2 thing..

I've fooled around with diffirent bushes, diffirent makes, even slightly diffirent arms. Whatever u do just ensure u check them on a daily basis after u changed them because I had ones fail on me on drivers side within 2 weeks. Brand new, all singing dancing etc etc etc etc....... Luckily I was accelerating away from a speed hump when it burst completely. Had to leave it at side of the road get AA to tow it to my uncles garage following day. I sent pictures of the result of it all to the company I bought them from and they took certain batch mine came from off the shelf. Replace you are TCA washers with larger ones when u start replacing them n messing bout with them. Just make sure u check them daily after u replace them. Just some safety advice bud.

Cheers for this useful advice mate! I prob wouldn have checked them until a wheel smacked me in the face or something:-)

Do they? Most of the comments I found about them were negative

Mine weren't too bad, certainly nothing like those posted by Phil, but the fitment wasn't great at all (a couple were slightly too big for the hole they were going in). They do what they are meant to tho so I really can't complain for the price
