Will a bonnet fit in a mk2f

Featured Replies

Need too pick up a bonnet, does anyone know from experience if I can put it in the back of my car, to save me a wasted journey. I would measure it but my tape measure is in my tool box at work.

Thanks :)

Yes. Yes it does. Lol.

Through the boot and down behind the front seats. Lol.

I think that's common sense haha wasn't planning on putting it in the glovebox...

I just wasn't sure that's all but thanks for the input

It's a great rule and one i've never managed to disprove :)

with some people around here you really just need to make sure

You haven't said what bonnet the car is for - you might struggle to get an XJ6 one in there but if it's for a Polo you should be okay.

Ha good call - apologies yeah a mk2f bonnet in a mk2f

That's the biggest ever Polo bonnet, with the exception of the Seat Ibiza/Cordoba bonnet which was fitted to 6K/6KV saloon/estate.

Whether your 2F is a hatch or squareback makes a bit of a difference too as a hatch could hold it diagonally, but oddly the back of these cars are wider than the front, and I've managed to put a full sized pallet board in the MK2 coupe by slotting it through the widest section where the shelf mounts are. This is the same as the facelift cars, and the pallet board was 1200mm x 1000mm. So if the bonnet is within those dimensions then the bonnet will go in horizontally and pose no problem even for a coupe.

If it's a 2F saloon, I suspect you've got no chance unless you take the front seats out, a door off, put the bonnet in over the rear seat and then replace them once it's in situ..

Ha quality, fountain of knowledge!

I'm buying the bonnet from a breakers on the 3rd so I might just take tools and fir it there and let them have my bonnet save me having to bring it home.

Cheers dude

Ah man!!!! Was it local? Found one at ASM £20+VAT

Thanks anyway though

What's it like tho?

Was a 35min drive, he's scrapping it soon ill send you his number if u want?

Stuff local, get the one in your colour - it'll be easier and cheaper than trying to get a paint match on such aged paint.
