Cable tie choke, May need a tad of throttle depending on how you are carbs are set up on idle jets ...

Mine is on border so needs a tad when cold

I've not got round to fitting a choke cable - so I've got a specially made cable tie that holds it in place while I go back inside..

Yeah i've got one fitted .. Just saying for first start up easier to cable tie it or get mate to hold choke..

Isnt that a pain starting it up, having to open bonnet to start it up :( lool

My idle control.valve , how should I have it ? One full turn open ?

My choke cable is the original MK2 one, has a solid core so you can push it back.

The only solid core cables i know of are for the heater but i can't think of a car that'd have one long enough as i haven't looked at many (Zafira might not be far off), but classic mini choke pulls are still cheap and common, they should do fine..?

My choke cable is the original MK2 one, has a solid core so you can push it back. Still, as long as the pull-bar is straight and so slides easily (some need a fettle for smooth action) The springs in the four choke valves should be fine - have for me.

See i didn't have the lead grub on the end but folding it over into a loop has been fine..

At one point i used a spring, when i couldn't get the bar to slide well enough, dunno what the issue was but it just wouldn't settle..

I sorted out my accelerator cable today , attached it to the pedal , had a hole drilled through it . tried turning the car over but it wouldn't start , was holding the choke open, twisted the throttle wheel. Dont know why, need to do the choke cable tomorrow, the bike pump , is marked with the word inlet, so I have the feed line from under the car going to it , then the other outlet on it going to the carbs

Yeah, it's a right pain popping the bonnet to get it to start, was going to fit one but can't find a suitable place on the dash.

Needs to be OEM looking.

Have you got spark? And have you got the leads in the right order?

Get a can of easy start (or equiv) and give each carb a skoosh down it (try and hold the slides up as you do this), will it start then die?

If it does, it's fueling. If it doesn't, it's spark.

It didn't start and the fail, the alternator belt would turn once then stop, yes the plugs are in the right order, 1342 clock wise , I have number one at 10 o'clock position , I need to check that is were tdc is I imagine . I have the dizzy turned all the way anti clock wise, so full advanced ? Maybe I should put it in the middle . but what do I do with my idle control valve ?

OK will do , they are jetted to 150 , gt cam in abd 600cc so do they require more advance ?

ull sort all that when it runs tbh. if it struggles turning over then you probs have too much.

Lol! Yeah, the rotor arm turns anti-clockwise..

Just try and start the engine, then turn the dizzy a couple of degrees, then try again, then again and again until you get there.

And what's all this about an idle control valve..?

Another thing, leave your foot off the pedal when starting the car. Otherwise the choke isn't really working.

i cant work on it in the dark ! lol, and i mentioned the 1342 clock wise about four times above and no one said out, i looked in haynes and it just said 1342, not clockwise or anti clock wise. so ok cool anti clock wise, I'm on it today, hence being up early, just need to do the choke cable and get it going. yes the idle control valve allegedly, before i posted pics of my carbs asking what all the bits on them were, there is a small black knob that can be turned, and is like on a spring, i think it turns the four bronze flanges to sit open a bit , or close them fully. dont know how to set them.

Yes, it's anti-clockwise. And don't go pumping the pedal expecting it to start, it basically needs the screw turned in a few turns so you can see the plate it rests on move about a mm or two.

Set that, get in the car, choke on and crank. It no life after 10 cranks, find out why.

I still have to have give it a dab of throttle with choke on .. Normally when car hasnt been started for ages ..

No where can be OEM really on a newer car lol , I've stashed mine down near the right wallet slot, Bit of a pain as you are pulling it > that way and twisting to lock off but works fine :)

It's jus an idle adjustment screw man, it just has a long flexy thing on it to make it easier :)

If I try touch the throttle when mine first starts it dies, no throttle FTW

This is pissing me off , it don't wanna start. Firing order dun. Choke dun. It just won't even try to turn over

First couple of times the alternator pully turns a bit , then after I get nothing
