Is it a proper train horn, as in literally a horn lifted from a train? If so where the hell did you get it, do want. Can't see anything in the Road traffic Act about it.

I think they are reasonablly easy to get hold of. I know someone from the camper shows who has one on his van. Always gives it a blast when you least expect and scares the crap out of everyone anywhere near it. I Know those musical air horns are illegal, but i've never heard anything about a db limit for a single tone, so technically you should be ok, but i wouldnt have thought police would take well to being deafened by it.

Dudes, get on YouTube, look up train horn car alarms.

You mean there's a limit on horns?

I've got a strobel natilus and that pretty loud.

But train horns FTW

Who cares if it's legal, i want a train horn!

Eric's just thought up a new business idea

shorley a louder horn is a safety device

as long as you onley use it to warn pepole

i dont no a mot tester that has failed a mot for a horn that is to loud

Never thought of it before but it'd be a funny upgrade, Harris I YouTube'd some... Lol they're rediculous!!

Be good for the old lady's that just walk out into the road and expect you to stop... May be a increase in heart attacks though

the main reason I've brough one is so when i see people walking across train tracks looking at their phones id blast it and watch them run lol .I've brought it from hornblasters.com but the a duty tax is 100 quid alone but i think it will be well worth it .the whole think cost me about 400 ish with an air compressor and wire and 4 long horns

Trains are for fags.

£400 quid are you mad, stuff that. Let me go have a look..

..erm..

Right then. Well a quick bit of research and it's looking like fog horns for boats are a bit weak despite their size, surprised me that, but it'll be a frequency thing. For cars, higher frequency is gonna be the way to go, we want loudness not tsunamis..

Cheap loud horns being passed off as suitable for trains rarely are, but horns that'll work with instant type compressors of 90psi could get to around 120db. Some claim 140 but it seems this is generally regarded as bollocks.

Really though you need a permanently pressurised air tank, using a solenoid as a shutter gate (on/off). This is the way to go for big decibels instantly, but off we go into money. Still, proper train horns without the compressor can cost well over a grand and that's before we even think about a tank and compressor to fit in the car.

The trick on a budget is gonna be to use a powerful instant compressor (at least 80psi) on a relay, with the right circa 30-40cm long non-solenoid horn tuned for as close to 140db as you can find.

Or settle for one of those 120db air horn kits for cars that cost around £20.

Giorgio had one on his polo years ago, was funny as fuck following him as he blasted it as he drove past some jogger

How did it work though?

Tank and compressor or just a compressor?

I want one now. :(

i get mine tomorow and its a compressor a 2 gallon tank ,all the hoses ,wires ect and 4 horns and i can all the spares for it so i dont have to buy a whole new kit

i bought a airhorn kit for my polo back in august at vw north west at tatton park fitted it there and then in about 10 mins and it was rather funny on the drive out of tatton with people walking along the road out make a few of them jump and for something that was only £14 it did make a rather loud noise, unfortunatly i broke it when i crashed a month later but definatly going to buy another one or maybe two, i did fancy a musical one but they aint road legal so would need to wire it up seperatly
