Hi all, new here so apologies if this has been covered before! Scrolled through the many topics to save you all the hassle but my engine seems to be an odd ball!!

My polo is the 1.4 S 16v y reg (2001), and has a coil pack on side of engine without dizzy cap.

The cars fault is more noticeable when hot, but basically she jerks or judders over 2.5k rpm on 2/5th + pedal pressing. So I can drive if I tickle her along but if the traffic lights are about to change then forget it!!!

I have changed: coil pack, ht leads, spark plugs and cam shaft sensor.

Are there any common faults with earths or ecu etc with these cars??

The judder is akin to when towing someone, then changing gear and re-taking up the slack.

Any help would be grateful.

Silly question but you mention you changed the spark plugs recently, what type did you put in?

Only reason I ask this is because I changed the spark plugs on mine recently for 'Bosch Super-4' spark plugs which as the name would suggest has 4 electrodes. From the moment I stuck them in I have suffered with a terrible misfire, yesterday I put the old and seemingly knackered 3 electrode spark plugs back in and it's back to running absolutely fine. failing that try taking the electrode caps off as my old plugs didn't have the electrode cap on but the new ones did so maybe the leads need to make contact with the top of the plug directly if that makes sense...

Just a thought!

If you can force it to misfire for a while, ie - staying in too long a gear for too long and keep it misfiring, the engine management light will flash to indicate a misfire.

Keep going until the light goes permanently on and get someone with a computer to scan it and see what the offending cylinder is.

Cheers inked, unfortunately the misfire was pre plug change as this seemed a common theme which is why I changed them.

As above it needs the platinum tipped plugs, but in your case it shouldny make a difference.

I'm guessing your engine is a n AYA or AUB? Have you changed the temp sensor. Mine was terrible until I changed it. It's the Audi type and it's cheapest on eBay. Also well worth cleaning the throttle body out at the same time.

Failing that it could well be a failed head gasket. O would get a compression test dome and see what happens. As these are alloy engines, they can warp, so bear this in mind.

Well I drove the car today about 6miles which got the engine light up, so now I can read the codes.

However, on the last mile it felt like I lost two cylinders as it went into what I would call limp mode!

I'm beginning to fear Dixy is right with the head gasket, so will get a compression test done to rule this out before continuing down the electrical route.

If it is the gasket then will sell rather than repair
