Hello, I currently own a 6k polo saloon (59k on the clock, 6 months tax and MOT booked in next week).

I saw a 16v polo for sale with 12 months MOT, tax till the end 2013 and 86k on the clock, looks in pretty good conition.

Rang the garage and asked about part ex for mine and how much cash would I have to pay extra. Their polo is up for £1489 and somehow calculated that I still would have to pay £1000 cash and my polo. So my question is, are 6n 16vs still expensive or do you generally lose a lot of money when part exing?

you normally loose quite a bit of money when part-exing. but then you have to think about the hassle of selling the old car and then work out if its worth your time and effort... :)

My Dad said to sell it "privately" but if I'm honest It seems like such a hassle rather than just trading it in. Polo is already on coilovers, 16v alloys, CD player etc so may save a little bit of money this way

Sell it privately, they tear your eyeballs out mate.

They are complete wankers mate, they will buy your car off you for £400 and next week you will see it for sale at £1,400

Used to live next to a car dealer, he offered me £600 for my car in part ex against a 2004 Passat TDi (which somehow he thought was worth £5,999 )

I have since sold my car privately for just over £1,900.....

Private sale is the way to go!!

Personally I think people who trade their cars in *because its less hassle* are mugs!! Why not just throw £300-400 on the floor and walk off?! Cause that's what you'll be doing!!

Put a deposit down so he'll hold it then sell privately and buy the new one at the garage

What age of valver is it?

I bought my first valver in 2008, it was a 1999 on a T plate and it cost me just £1900...from a dealer down south.

You're telling me in almost 5 years they have only dropped by £400 in value?

You should get some £££ off by not having a p/x though?

It's a 2000 plate, 12 months MOT, 12 months tax, FSH, on coilovers, clear indicators/side repeaters, debadged grille.

unless it's something really special i.e completely immaculate with low mileage and full service history it's not worth near £1500. the dealer probably paid about £650-750 for it probably even less if it was p/xed

£1000 should get you a decent valver, you just have to look around for it.

£1500 is alot for what would be a 99 reg car at best. Even if it was one of the last ones with aircon and solitudes it would be £500 cheaper private at least.

It's 86k miles, with FSH (just been done this year). MOT till 2014, 12 months tax, coilovers, debadged grille, CD player on a 2000 plate and bodywork is in really good condition

We went to look at a mk2 bready the other day. Fox. No passenger mirror, no radio, 4 speed, absolute basic. Needed loads of rust repairing and a full spray just to make it a decent car again, so what, £100-300 maybe?

They had it up for £1295!

Bought mine on here in 2011 for £900 including coilovers, debadged, sound system and the guy also fitted heated/massage drivers seat (into a standard valver seat)

It had a little bit of wheel arch rust though.
