Lewis' Mk3 coupe OOT

Featured Replies

Hi all this is my first build thread I've made so it might be a bit pants to start with, I am open to suggestions and help with making these though!

Anyway enough on that more on the coupe! Basically I have bought this coupe knowing the past few owners of her, She was once a very tidy car but unfortunately the past two owners haven't given her all the attention that was needed and she's a little tired..

So basically she started life as a 1.0l coupe but has been given a new lease of life with a 1.3GT lump. I have a load of receipts ect for work done to the engine too. It has a full stainless system with a 4-2-1 Mani back system. Its believed to be cammed (unsure of cam make and profiles until I dig thoroughly through these receipts) also has a lot more work done to make the lump a little more responsive again unsure on precisely what until I go through the receipts.

At the moment she sits on cut springs because the past two decided to "Stance" it. I am going to be replacing these with some lowering springs again and leaving the spax dampers on it. I plan on saving for some coil overs in the future.

On the brake department it has VWII's up front and standard drums at the rear.

At the moment I have 13x7 weller wheels on there with 175/55/13's. these need to be changed as they catch far too much for my liking.

At some point it has had a full blow over outside on the body in what is believed to be Audi Indian red? Please correct me if this is wrong? Also the bumpers have been colour coded and had a nice subtle chrome trim placed in them with the tops painted in black. I do plan on having a full respray again to sort this. Also the filler flap has had a nice air brush art piece on it.

On the inside it is very very minimal, It has had the rear stripped out and once had a false floor made which broke so one of the previous owners has taken it out but this will be replaced. It has stanard 1l front seats with black covers on I plan on either getting a nice set of genisis front seats for while and then some buckets or just to wait and get some buckets at some point. It has had the full Gt black carpets, dash clock center console ect put in.

Audio wise I am running a clarion vz401e head unit and some random sony dash speakers. I am yet to deceide weather or not I will place some audio in my false floor or not..

Thanks for reading any suggestions welcome!

After a nice simple wash, badge was off for painting!

Painted the badge matt black, It was white when I got it and I really didn't like it.

After a good clean and a little edit. My favorite picture of this by far!

There's a story behind this "wonky plate" business with a previous owner so I thought i'd leave it..

Slight splitter fail when I was jacking up the rear.. bad times

Trial fitted my mate 13x6 Revo's on the other day, couldnt get them on the front as I will need spacers to cleat my calipers, but I think I would like to try find a wider set and put some on..

IMG_12451.JPG

The banded steels look great, unfortunately the fronts are just too wide (I'm guessing 8j)

As for the revos, I properly love them but if you're going for 13" wheels from a mini then don't leave out the Alleycats as an option. Just remember, as a rule of thumb anyway, max width of wheels on a coupe is 7" up front and 8" at the rear.

that looks sick! never was a massive fan of colour coded bumpers until now

Cheers for the advice fella much appreciated, the weller wheels are just what came with the car and you are correct I thought they were 7's until I was corrected by a friend yesterday. I am hoping to get some ATS Classics for it at some point ?

Thanks man, I really prefer the colour coded bumpers after I saw this car.. I have some plans for the black strip across the top of them to maybe get them done in a glossy black?

Thanks for this Karl :) I'm trying to get as much history on her as I possibly can, I yes I think it suits them now to be honest i'll put some pictures up later :) Need to give them a clean..

Discovered a horrible leaky sunroof over the weekend and unfortunatly the passangers seat has got very damp need to find a way to solve this mildew issue. For now the sunroof will have to be sealed with some clear silicone though

Conversion wise buddy I would just say get comeplete 1.3gt engine with loom, ancillaries, clocks ec u ect from there the engine conversoin is pretty much all straight forward fella..

And scrappie wise I always tend to use Whites scrap yard (Dusties) In wellingborough northamptonshite :)

Hope this helps mate

So on tomorrows to do list now is to temporarily repair my offside Anti Roll bar mount. The bolts for the bush today sheard themselves out the thread on the mount so I need to find a way around this and bolt my roll bar back up. Hopefully with a longer M8 bolt or similar and a locker on the other end to hold it up.

Fingers crossed!
