For my Mk3 polo and even though I've changed my sidelight and dipped/main beam bulb, I noticed that when I have my sidelights on it still has a bit of slightly normal light/ yellowish colour to it but it doesn't happen on my dipped and main beam. Does anyone know why this is? I tried to get a picture to give a better idea but you couldn't tell at all. Cheers.

Nah man, they aren't properly blue. They are called ice blue I think, so still kinda clear light but blue tinted.

How do they work mate? I was thinking of getting maybe getting an (forgive me if i'm wrong) are they called HID light kits or something like that.

I have the one in the middle fitted in my G40...

You get fitting instructions with them...piece of piss to fit.

blue bulbs arent illegal to an extent, best off with LED side lights pal, i have 'blue' sidelights in the mk2 and they're still yellow.. can get LED side lights

dirt cheap from any motor factors really!

Cheers dude. So you had a similar problem on your mk2? Did just getting LED bulbs solve the yellowish glow still coming through? Just looked on ebay and they're dirt cheap.

Apparently Ambiwlans drivers can't park straight.

i guess they are used to rushing in and mounting a curb quickly. :p

when sidelights are on in a mk3 the main bulb is lit slightly too, if you unplug the yellow coil thingy in the scuttle tray it will stop this happening and you will only have you sidelight bulbs lit :)

Yellow coil thingy, is a dim dip resistor. Dont need the stupid thing anyway, as its a relic from an old law that doesnt apply anymore. Fit LED sidelights and unplug that and your away :)

if they're blue LED's they look shit and are illegal

if they're white LED's they usually have a slight blue tint which can be enough for them to fail an MOT (due to colour) but not enough for the feds to say anything.

All forward lighting must be white / yellow according to road vehicle lighting regs (except indicators, obviously)

You can have amber sidelights too.

I thought the wording for the MOT manual was that they had to be functioning. No specific colour is mentioned. (unless its was changed in the last batch of alterations)

But TBH having anything except yellow/white will get you the wrong attention. (even yellow can have that effect to the stupid people balancing on the thin blue line)

no it doesent, mine was plugged in with HID's bro.

just makes them flicker on the 1st setting (which may be the reason you say to unplug them?)

That flicker can damage the ballast. Hence why it needs to be unplugged.
