Insurance Dilemma

Featured Replies

Right. Its hard to understand i'll try my best.

1) Last december i was Insured with LV on my Grandads policy, I was the main driver, Full comp. did that year clean. It was £300 upfront, £225 a month!

2) This december i went with Ecar insurance this year stating i have 1years NCB, I thought i had as i was main driver and didn't have any accidents, Well i needed a few bits for Ecar to look at and i rang LV up asking for my NCB Certificate and they said it went on my grandads NCB

3) So i've just paid £300 deposit and started paying the amazing fee of £90 a month on my coupe however its void.

I was paying £225 a month with LV last year and now its dropped to £90, So i've got a void insurance. I don't want to loose my deposit with Ecar?

What can i do? As i'll have to tell them!

you have 14day cooling off period with insurance so just cancel and get your money back it or ask how much it would be for you to have zero NCB as the price hike might not be too bad.

if the policy was in your grandads name its his ncb,

not alot you can do other than call ecar and see how much extra they rape you for.

Did it state on the policy (paperwork side) that you as the non policy holder would definitely earn no claims?

If it does argue it out with old insurance and get them to forward the NCB certificate over.

If it doesn't state you did/could earn NCB then you will have to fess up to new company and see what they say

How can it be in your Grandads policy but you be the main driver? You had to have been a named driver?

being the policyholder doesn't automatically mean your the main driver if you add named drivers to your policy you have to state who will drive the car the most.

being the main driver and not the policyholder you will receive no ncd but you will be able to show that you've been driving for 1year claim free but not on your own policy, wether they accept it is an another thing.

you have 14 days cooling off period to cancel the policy don't be afraid to ask them as they might be able to do you a deal to keep your policy going and your money.

I've rang LV up asking them to send me the certificate with 1Years NCB on it, Praying it says MR A FRASCA, NOT MR ANTONIO FRASCA which is my grandad!

PRAY WITH ME.

Just insure the car properly, do not insure it with NCB you do not have, it will come around and bite you.

Many insurers will be able to work with your named driver experience, shop around.

I don't mind cancelling, Just will i get my cash back instant?

  • 2 weeks later...

I would have thought that if you were the main driver for the full year, then you are fully entitled to the no claims discount; because the risk would have been predominantly based on your driving ability.

Have you called the company more than once and got a second opinion? I would suggest this. I work in the business and some people dont know there elbow, from there arse.

ring them and ask is best bet

Have you got it sorted buddy?

I did in the end, I cancelled it within the 14 days but they took 174 from my deposit :(

I thought if you cancelled it within the 14 days you would get a full refund minus the time on cover?

What they have taken works out as a minimum of...£12 a day of insurance!

That's £370 a month!!

I'm so glad I'm not a young driver anymore.

I'm still annoyed, Apparently it was divided into time, 2 weeks cover, Direct debit setup and administration fee's! WTF

Sounds like they went straight in with no lube

It hurt Jakey :crybaby:

Things like this make me you see why people will still risk driving with no insurance.

I bet I could go 14 days or more with no insurance and, provided I go out at the right times, not been caught by traffic.

And if you do get caught the fine (taking points out the equation) is only £200!

And they wonder why the country is a mess and people have no money

its a joke i know someone who was driving from when he was 16 on the roads and for years didnt have a licence

all he did was get someone to insure the car dirt cheap keep it taxed and tested and that was it never got caught its rediculous really

and this new law meaning a taxed car has to be insured to stop uninsured drivers is a joke because they just wont bother taxing the car either

the people it hurts most is people with 2nd/weekend/show cars that just insure the cars for weekends have to get tax each time or have to insure the cars the whole time and keep them taxed meaning the government get more money
