Have found a few shocking efforts at car modding recently, some questionable of safety,

My friend bought a steering wheel for his car the other day, came with a boss.

This is the boss,

Splines? Nah we'll just grind them out to make fit. Appears the indicator click off parts have been ground away too, potentially with a concrete type grinding disc.

Naturally, the wheel was fitted properly too,

With self tapping screws of course. And the PCD looks like it needed a bit of a tweak, at least it was indexed around from the old holes.

Seriously though, I am already skeptical of buying stuff anyone else has touched, and things like this justify it fully.

Some people are just genuinely, dangerous pikey retards who need shooting, or maybe dropping on their heads, potentially knock some sense into them.

Will this fit a Breadvan. I'm after a death trap boss. Heard there limited edition?

Grind spline to suit column, self tapping screws to mount wheel.

wtf! i blame health and safety. if it wasnt for health and safety, braindead people wouldnt survive long enough to learn to drive, let alone pass a test and start modding cars.

This reminds me of when the bottom arm popped out on my coupe, after the previous owner fitted a lowering kit, rounded the threads off the pinch bolt, and eventually the bottom arm wore through the bolt, bent the wing and snapped a drive shaft, luckily i was only pulling out of a car park at the time.

This was a big wake up call for me cause i didn`t even think to ckeck and iv been a paronoid bastard ever since, always assume the worst, because some people have no common sense yet they have the abilitly to pich up a spanner.

Honestly I know I am a picky person but some people just shouldn't touch cars, simple.

When did common sense become in such short supply?

I don't like the idea of buying readily modified cars. Mine was very mildly modified, and even some of that was assembled wrong, even though assembly is the reverse of disassembly...how is that possible?

I see these cheap modified cars advertised as track day cars etc, I'd have to fully strip it and rebuild.

Other things I love include twisted and taped wires, the wrong type of wheel bolts, and "no bump stops"

Health and safety is beyond a joke now, but I understand its to protect such retards, because they would go and play in the motorway if you said it was a good idea.

The car it's for, was also modified, as we fully stripped it to fit a 2.0 16v (mk1 fiesta) and it was slammed.

No mention of what suspension, but it was a solid '77 shell, and we were going to be stripping it so wasn't fussed.

Anyway, the springs had been chopped.

1 coil.

Not one coil removed, the front springs were just one coil.

Honestly.

See this is the problem with legislation - whilst the rule books come down hard on the competent, you're never gonna stop genuinely retarded pikeyism because they don't care for legislation.

So even when we're not easily allowed to make our cars safer, this bodgery will never stop happening.

Twisted wires and tape really, really, really do my fucking box in.

How hard is it to turn on the gas iron that takes less than 10 seconds to heat up, so put some heat shrink over the top and do the job properly in the first place?!

You end up spending more time fixing someone else's mess than actually getting round to mending shit.

For example, guy came into work today saying he had a weird wheel wobble at 60 but insisted on driving it the 50 odd miles to work. All wheel bolts tight. There's a spacer that was flapping about behind the wheel, a good 4mm gap between hub and wheel. Hmm.

Jumped up to the house and got tools, took the wheel off to find a spigot on the hub AND on the wheel. Smart.

Idiots. The lot of them.

My polo came with a set of fog lights fitted by esplanade, I.e. A garage. £150 he was charged to have them wired in, there was tape everywhere, they had wired them straight to the battery (with a switch and relay..) with no fuse! They bought an extra foglight switch when the standard one is designed to incorporate fronts as well!

My mums pug 407 had a towbar fitted, the wiring had been completely bodged, there was a positive running to the back, at some point it needed splicing, instead of crimps or solder, it was taped and twisted, but the tape had come off, and it was on the verge shorting! On the other hand the positive had been straight to the battery, no fuse again, and instead of splicing into something going to the battery, or bolting it on the connector, they drilled the terminal and threw a self tapper in, quality!

Bloody garage bodge jobs!
