My little MK3 breadvan :D

Featured Replies

So I picked myself up a little 1991 breadvan in tornado red for £425...

Ran well, new MOT, no tax, over serviced for the first 10 years or so of it's life, 5 speed box with the 1.3 NZ engine, so multi point injection!

It had a catback fitted by 'carnoisseur' over here on the island, bit of a bodge job but sounds nice nonetheless!

Spent the first few days fixing, inspecting, removing bits, etc., had fogs bodged in by esplanade (£150 for the wiring, and no fuse!) so removed those and sold them on for a tenner, took the AA badge off and gave it to a mate, there was an isle of wight badge on the back that I removed and am now at a loss as to what to do with it!

Wondered why the radio sounded crap, so took a look at the front speakers.. they're a little fubard!

so I replaced those with uprated ones, sounds much nicer now!

Bought myself a set of clear indicators and fitted them, succesfully lacerating my hand in the process as one of the original ones was just shoved in so took a lot of force to remove..

I then removed the 'catalyst' badge and t-cutted the rest of the chrome off the Polo CL badge..

Everything was going well until I took the rear vw badge off to spray it, and found this underneath..

treated myself to a new headunit for christmas..

and then one day I though it'd be a good idea to buy and fit a remote central locking kit, not particularly complicated but time consuming wiring it all in!! Had to get the doors off to drill the holes for the wires and grommets!

And then this is pretty much how it stands now, I have cleaned the interior up, refitted the seats, sprayed the rear badge sating black and finished the remote central locking since this photo, but this is pretty much how it looks :)

I am absolutely chuffed with my little polo, perfect first car in my mind! Will keep the thread updated as I do more to it, plans for the future at the moment are debadge grill, lower it 70mm at the front and 60mm at the back, colour code a couple of bits of trim, replace the parcel shelf supports (if anyone has any let me know!), spray the rocker cover and just generally tidy it up :)

If anyone wants the isle of wight badge or catalyst badge off me, make me an offer!

lots of room for improvement there :)

by any chance do you want to sell the hubcaps of this mate? give me a pm if so ;)

Looks proper tidy mate, really want a breadvan myself but I've only owned coupe's. Mine was also my first car and I got rid of it for a 1.4 lupo which I do love, and its rapid! But I'm now trying to get rid of that and in the mean time I've got myself another one cause I missed it so bad!

Anyway, can't believe what you found under that badge, that's nasty! But apart from that give it a good T-Cut and a nice set of wheels.

I'd suggest a set of 14" bbs ra's, they are quite common but I think they look really oem as they originally came off the G40! (13" ones anyway)

Collie.

cheers both of you :) and yeah I know! I was a bit lazy and only took the dremmel to it to get rid of the rust it and used a touch up kit to prime and paint it, didn't bother repairing the hole, just siliconed the badge in, but it didn't set properly in the damp :/ need to re do it :/ and yeah definitely, can't afford wheels at the sec till I sell off some more parts sold off though! lowering and debadge grill first though :)

what's peoples' opinions on the banana trims though? and the rest of the bump strips? should I spray them?

Remove them all together?! was just gonna colour code but will have to see what it looks like without them! was thinking a 70/60 drop but the roads are shite on this island so may reconsider haha! and weren't all the g40's coupes? do the coupe lights fit breadvans?! if they do I'll get a set asap!!

so I have been driving it around now with my dad, and we noticed a creak from the rear nearside area, it also doesn't sit level.. investigated it a little, the springs aren't sat right at all! they're rubbing and all wrong! so this weekend we will be sorting that out then the back should sit level, should drive a bit better, and the wheels should sit just in the rear arches. My test is booked for the 4th of february and once that's out the way I can get on and get some proper work done!

For the time being I've ordered some stuff to sort out my crap interior lighting, led interior bulb to replace the shite incandescent one, along with two 10cm led strips that will go in the footwell and be wired in parallel with the interior light so they come on when it's switched on. Also ordered a 30cm strip for the boot as I've currently got 2 pathetic little ones in the boot that don't fit right and are generally a bodge, they'll come out and I'll mount the strip under the parcel shelf or something onto the wires the boot lights are on currently. Also got some new door lock pins on the way as one is broken! Red aluminium, they were cheap and I'm hoping where they're read they'll suit the car.. if not I'll get some black ones.

I'll be getting some front 60mm drop springs shortly, and they'll go on once I pass my test, currently there's a little reverse rake, considering the backs will sit in the arches fairly nicely once we sort rears out I'll just drop the front 60mm on the steelies, give it some rake hopefully, if not then I'll do a 70mm drop, hopefully should look good, I can't wait. from there it'll be spraying the bump strips (according to vw they actually help deal with crosswinds!) tornado red, and I think I'll leave the banana trims in place, they look alright isolated I think.

Photos soon hopefully! Fingers crossed I pass, sorry for the essay of a post! haha

whats the central locking like to fit any good? also links to where from please?

sorry for the late reply!

It's easy enough to fit, just takes time really, I had to get both my doors off to drill the holes for wires but I'm sure there's an easier way! haha here's a link to one like mine: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-REMOTE...=item4d08cfe042

On a different note, my 60mm front lowering springs turned up yesterday:

775013_3897588013002_1219607927_o.jpg

They'll be fitted next weekend hopefully, my test is on tuesday! :s

The car isn't running atm, the coil and module failed, but we picked up both for a total of £24 so it's not too bad.

Anyway, this is how the car's looking at the moment, I'll get some good pictures up once it's lowered and debadged and I've passed!

Looking good man! I have the same headunit and mine doesnt fit in either haha

yeyyy you got my springs fitted! rear needs lowering now

  • Author

Even with 4 rolled arches I scrape at the back lol.. Not on the arch though... Bottom cup of the shock? Putting 5mm spacers on and camber though I think lol

  • Author

Quick update.. some suspension bits are being ordered this week. 3 or 5mm spacers are going on the back to clear the strut and arch, and whole lowering kit being ordered, staying with 60mm drop on the front but getting uprated shocks, rears are getting uprated shocks and dropping around 40mm. Might be putting some camber on too... lesson learnt, 6.5j on 15's on a polo is a bad idea ;)
